GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Electrical Groundsman supports the Town's Electrical Department in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the electric distribution system. This position assists Linemen with overhead and underground line work, service connections for residential and commercial customers, and limited substation maintenance. Duties include assisting Linemen with setting poles, pulling and splicing wire, installing and repairing transformers, and performing related tasks in both energized and de-energized environments. The Groundsman works under the direction of lineworkers to ensure safe and efficient operations of the Town's electrical system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist linemen with various aspects of line maintenance, repair, and construction. Stock and provide to linemen necessary protective equipment needed for work being done i.e. (hot sticks, rubber goods, blankets, gloves, etc.). Prepare and assemble various line apparatuses. Drive and operate various work vehicles. Keep work areas clean and organized including picking up scrap wire, boxes, and other discarded materials. Keep unauthorized people away from work area. Stock trucks with material commonly used on a daily basis. Assist with cleaning warehouse and storage yard area. Assist with washing and maintaining equipment in proper working order. Assist with cleaning protective equipment (hot sticks and rubber goods). Use of various hand and power tools. Assist with loading various materials onto trucks and/or trailers. Assist all departments of Public Works as determined by the Public Works Director. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 18 years old. High School Diploma or Equivalent. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate percentages, fractions and decimals. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

The employee must be able to perform heavy work exerting up-to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up-to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 20 pounds constantly to lift objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid North Carolina Class B or higher CDL. May require mandatory callbacks during inclement weather. May include nights, weekends, and holidays.

This position requires the employee to be subject to random drug testing as per the Town of Landis Policy.
