Job Description
NJDWSC has an immediate full-time opening at our offices in Wanaque, NJ, for a Grounds/Facilities Maintenance Worker to join the Grounds/Facilities Maintenance department. As a member of our team, you will contribute to the continued reliable delivery of the highest-quality potable water to the over 3.5 million residents of Northern New Jersey.
General Purpose:
Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled work using hand or power tools and equipment in the care and maintenance of NJDWSC owned buildings and Commission owned properties. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks which may include the following: Pesticide application, sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler repairs, brick paver installation, retaining wall installation, fence repair and installation, guard rail repair and installation, weir and culvert maintenance, chain saw work, trash pickup, moving furniture and other related duties as assigned.NOTE:

- Weed, mulch, feed, fertilize, compost and irrigate plants, shrubs and small trees.
- Operate a variety of hand tools and small machines such as rakes, shovels, hoes, clippers, brooms, snow blower, and lawn maintenance machinery.
- Cleans and maintains landscaped areas, paved areas, roadways, paths and walks.
- Picks up litter, garbage and organic debris from both landscaped and natural Commission owned property.
- Corrects or reports hazardous conditions.
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, burial sites and Dams.
- Removal of snow/spread calcium or salt in required areas.
- Operates trucks and vehicles.
- Unloads trucks.
- Operates lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, trimmers, brush saws, high pressure pesticide sprayer, industrial compressor, jackhammer, drills, etc.
- Performs basin cleaning.
- Fence and guardrail installation and repair.
- Traps and relocates rodents.
- Trims, mows, edges, fertilizes, aerates, waters turf/lawn/shrub. GFM worker weeds, prunes, mulches, feeds, irrigates plants, shrubs and small trees.
- Sprays landscaped areas for weed, pest and insect control.
- Assists all other departments as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Experience on Groundsmaster 360 and Ventrac mowing equipment.
- Snow removal and mandatory overtime for snow and Ice removal during off hours.
- Custodial duties.
- Maintains all Commission buildings and properties.
- Responds to emergencies.
Min Education/Experience/Licenses :
- Strong working knowledge of general landscaping.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Internal training, such as, but not limited to: Confined space, Conduct, Lockout Tag out, Ethics Training, and other safety training as required.
- Use of landscaping tools.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Valid NJ Driver's License.
- Previous pesticide experience a plus.
- A New Jersey Pesticide license in 3B Turf or 6B Right of Way will need to be acquired within the first 6 months of employment.
Physical Requirements :
- Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighting 60 to 150 lbs.
- Frequently bends, twists, kneels, crawls and crouches.
- Repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs, sweeping, vacuuming, moping and pushing/lifting a shovel.
- May drive vehicle and equipment.
- Continuous walking, standing and moving about.
- Exposure to adverse weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, odors, dirt and dust, including ladder work.
- Ability to navigate uneven surfaces.
- Ability to navigate working in unusually loud conditions.
- Ability to work underground or with unusual heights.
