Job Description:
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This work involves responsibility for maintaining grounds and outdoor recreational areas. The work is performed under the direct supervision of a Senior Groundskeeper. During inclement weather, and during winter months, this employee may be assigned to general cleaning and maintenance tasks. Does related work, as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
Mows lawns and trims hedges, trees, and shrubs; Hauls and spreads topsoil, gravel, and related grounds keeping materials; Rolls, seeds, and fertilizes lawns and athletic fields; Removes paper and litter from grounds; Transplants seedlings; Operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment, including tractors, rollers, sprayers, diggers, rakes, mowers, power broom, and plows; Adjust, cleans, and sets mowers and sprayers to insure proper operations; Plants and cares for trees, shrubs, and flowers; Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, steps, and building entrances; Rakes leaves and grass; Sharpens mowers and performs unskilled maintenance on other grounds equipment; Maintains playing fields, tennis courts and other recreation areas; May perform inside maintenance/cleaning tasks. The above examples of duties are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND/OR PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Working knowledge of grounds maintenance practices and techniques; ability to maintain cooperative relations with others; ability to operate a variety of power equipment used in the maintenance of lawns, shrubs and grounds; ability perform routine manual work; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Graduation from high school or possession of an appropriate equivalency diploma recognized by the NYS Department of Education AND six (6) months of experience in grounds, maintenance or building cleaning.
OR:
B. Any equivalent experience indicating ability to perform the duties of the job.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time, Genesee County civil service position at 40 hours per week and is compensated at a rate of $17.36 per hour. Work is on campus in Batavia, NY. Incumbent must be a resident of Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Erie, Orleans, Wyoming or Niagara County. Hours worked are 6:00am to 2:30pm.
