04/07/2026 This is a Civil Service position. Applicants must either currently be active on a Custodian Civil Service list or will be required to take the Civil Service Custodian test and score in the top three (3).

SALARY:

$19.51 to $27.31 per hour; commensurate with experience

HOURS OF WORK

12 month position. 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (Monday thru Friday, Saturdays as needed)

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Maintain District grounds, athletic fields and parking lots. Position is essential to athletic events, performs all fields preparations before events including painting of lines, and placing of goals for ALL sporting events. Assist in snow removal and sanding as needed. Develop and maintain a turf maintenance plan for synthetic and natural surfaces. Assist in grounds clean up in the spring as well as preparations for the winter months. Work with Facilities Director to maintain an inventory of grounds supplies and equipment. Assist in ordering of parts as needed for grounds equipment. Work with Athletic department to prioritize activities to support athletic events during all seasons. Work with Transportation department to ensure grounds equipment is properly maintained. Sweeps, mops, vacuums, and washes floors and stairs; Uses heavy mechanical equipment in stripping, waxing, and polishing floors; Dusts chairs, tables, desks, and other furniture; Polishes furniture and brass; Empties wastebaskets and collects and disposes of trash; Arranges chairs and tables and other equipment for special use of building; Repairs window shades, replaces light bulbs, soap, and towels; Moves furniture, supplies, and other equipment; Cleans walls, bath fixtures, equipment, and furniture; May clear snow and ice from walks; Mows lawns, trim shrubs, rakes leaves, and performs a variety of other groundskeeping tasks as assigned; May assist in the operation and maintenance of an oil or gas-fired low-pressure heating system; Washes windows, walls, blackboards, sinks, and other fixtures; Makes minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical repairs; Prepares and maintains simple records and reports.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Working knowledge of common cleaning and disinfecting methods, materials, and equipment; skill in the use of cleaners and maintenance equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaner, carpet shampooer, and floor buffer); skill in the use of grounds maintenance tools and equipment (e.g., trimmers, mowers, and snowblowers); ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to lift heavy objects and perform work requiring bending, climbing, reaching, and repetitive motion; ability to assist in minor maintenance repair work; willingness to perform routine cleaning and other physical tasks; willingness to be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, grime, offensive sights, and odors; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One year of experience in the maintenance or cleaning of buildings.
