Clinton Way City Bear Mountain State NY Zip Code 10911 Duties Description Trailside Museums and Zoo is a 30-acre site located within Bear Mountain State Park. This location includes 15 outdoor animal exhibits, 5 stone buildings, 4 regional nature museum buildings, a stone residential house, 1 mile of paved trail, a historical Revolutionary War site, and a forested area. The facility has native plant species gardens among other landscaping features. Under the direction of the Trades Generalist, SG-12 at Trailside Museums and Zoo, the selected candidate will perform duties related to maintenance and repair of the grounds and buildings. This position also involves working in a zoo environment where animals are present. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform upkeep of grounds, including the operation and basic maintenance of hand and power tools (line trimmers, mowers, etc.).
  • Perform snow removal by hand shoveling and operating a snowblower and tractor plow.
  • Clear sites, prepare them for planting, and plant seeds, trees, shrubbery, and flowers.
  • Complete maintenance tasks including cleaning restrooms and picking up litter.
  • Make repairs to a variety of structures and buildings.
  • Paint interior and exterior surfaces.
  • Use and maintain tools and equipment properly.
  • Utilizes proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) during work tasks.
  • This position involves physically demanding work outdoors on uneven and steep terrain in a variety of weather conditions for extended periods of time. This includes carrying and moving tools, materials, and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Read and understand written instructions and material.
  • Communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions.
  • Adheres to the agency's Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.

OPERATIONAL NEEDS
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
  • An interest in the preservation of the natural world and historic sites is preferred but not required.
