Responsible for using a variety of tools, equipment, and treatments to maintain grounds including planting, cultivating, spraying, pruning, and cutting plants, trees, shrubs, grass, and flowers. Responsible for determining the care and treatment necessary to maintain grounds in good condition.COMPENSATION

The district contributes the employer portion; there is also a mandatory employee portion. Upon eligibility, which is defined as working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position, the employee is required to contribute 6% as their employee portion, via payroll deduction. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.SCHEDULE

260 daysMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Incumbents must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population. Graduation from high school or equivalent. Some experience as a grounds worker. Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction; sound judgment and decision making capabilities are essential. Ability to operate power and heavy equipment and maintain lift certification. Ability to tie down equipment, and tow trailers. Experience in loading and unloading power and heavy equipment. Knowledge of lawn, tree and shrub care. Must possess a valid license and a safe driving record and be able and willing to operate district owned vehicles. May be required to possess or obtain a Commercial Driver's License. If assigned this duty, must maintain IPM or Herbicide License through the Oregon Department of Agriculture.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Substantive training and/or experience in care and maintenance of plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Training and/or certification in pesticide application.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(depending on specific assignment): Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Cutting lawns including trimming and edging. Pruning shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth. Removing trash, damaged plants, grass, leaves, and branches. May be required to spray lawns, plants, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides (this duty is assigned by the supervisor and coincides with maintenance of IPM or Herbicide License through the Oregon Department of Agriculture and includes a pay differential). Conditions and prepares soils and transplants or plants seeds, seedlings, or bulbs according to instructions and planned design of the landscaped area. Waters lawns, shrubs, and flowers. Maintains paths and walkways. Performs preventative maintenance, maintenance and makes minor repairs on power equipment and hand tools. Maintains or assists in maintaining athletic fields including mowing, raking, lining, leveling, repairing, etc. Performs required routine maintenance on athletic fields including grooming, sweeping, and blowing. Operates such equipment as tractors, mowers and gang mowers, trimmers, blowers, sweeper, lime or fertilizer spreaders, lawn roller, and snow removal equipment. Performs requested work order repair to include, but not limited to fencing, play structures, signs, etc. Operates district vehicles and trucks to transport equipment and materials.
