The Groundman assists a manual (climbing) or aerial lift crew performing line clearance vegetation management by performing a wide range of tasks.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

The Ground Person/Flagger uses a chainsaw to cut brush, logs and stumps of larger trees. Gather and drag brush and feed brush into wood chipper. Responsible for temporary traffic control and equipment (cones, signs and flagging). Controls movement of vehicular traffic through sites in which tree trimming is performed. Uses a stop and slow paddle and flag to control traffic. Works around moving vehicular traffic. Must ensure their safety and the safety of others by following all company safety policies. Must be able to work all scheduled work hours. Services truck, chipper, and equipment, maintaining them in neat, clean, and specified mechanical order. Responsible for daily inventory on truck

REQUIREMENTS

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time. Must be able to traverse various terrains. Must be able to write, read and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information. Must be able to communicate with others. Must be able to work well in a team environment as well as independently. Must be able to maintain attention during dangerous tasks. Must have endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard eight or ten hour day. Must be able to work during crew location changes if employee must relocate their work location due to work load. Must be able to operate and service all required tools and equipment. Must have reliable transportation to and from the start-up location. .

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Must have the ability to work outside in all weather conditions including sun, rain, wind, snow, hot and cold temperatures etc. Must have the ability to work around excessive noise from machines, chain saws, wood chipper, etc. with hearing protection. Must have the ability to perform physical labor requiring continual and repetitive use of gross motor skills to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, crawl, crouch, drag, push, pull, twist, turn, stretch, reach, and continual and repetitive use of fine motor skills and manual dexterity. Must have the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and maneuver objects weighing up to 10 pounds frequently, and occasionally lift, carry, push, pull and maneuver objects weighing up to 50 pounds. May be exposed to nature i.e., irritating plants and biting or stinging insects, reptiles and dust. Must have the ability to maintain balance and work safely on steep slopes and uneven ground. Must have the ability to work at varying heights, can be up to and in excess of 50 feet. Must have the ability to see and hear. Must also have good hand-to-eye coordination to get and use the appropriate equipment and tools. May be exposed to and have to work around falling limbs. May be exposed to traffic hazards.
