Primary Purpose:
Maintain all school district landscapes to promote a safe and aesthetic environment.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED preferred. Valid Texas Driver License preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read and understand instructions in English. Ability to use grounds equipment and hand tools.
Experience:
Previous grounds maintenance experience preferred.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Grounds Maintenance 1. Align the major functions of the assignment with district goals such that all students succeed. 2. Work with Grounds crews to maintain school district landscapes, athletic fields and outlying playground fields. 3. Duties include mowing, edging, string trimming, use of backpack blower, pruning, weeding and other landscape maintenance tasks. 4. Load and unload equipment on trailers. 5. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and materials. 6. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure work areas are clean and neat. 7. Work with district staff and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor to complete projects. 8. Maintain reliable and regular attendance. 9. Respond to emergency calls as needed. 10. Perform other duties as assigned. Safety 11. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment. 12. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures and manufacturers recommendations. 13. Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition. 14. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, carrying, etc. 15. Implement additional safety precautions when working near students and other personnel. 16. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Equipment Used:
Hand tools, power tools, garden tools, riding mower, string trimmer, blower, edger, etc. Light truck or van.
Working Conditions:
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, heavy lifting and carrying. Must be able to lift fifty pounds. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, around moving equipment and machinery with moving parts. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, excessive noises, dust, debris, fumes and toxic chemicals (herbicides and fertilizers). Frequent districtwide travel.
