GROUNDSKEEPER/MAINTENANCE Hours:
Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Summer hours.
Winter work hours:
To Be Determined. Start and end times may vary, depending on weather conditions and work requirements.
Days:
260 days /8 hours per day
BEGINS:
ASAP General Statement of Responsibilities:
Help to maintain the condition, safety, and security of school facilities and grounds. Provide support in other areas of the district as needed.
Supervision Received:
The Groundskeeper / Maintenance is supervised by the Assistant Facilities Director. Work may be assigned and coordinated by the Lead Groundskeeper.
Level of Responsibility:
Undertake the tasks assigned by the Assistant Facilities Director. Plan and organize the time, materials, and equipment needed to complete these tasks in accordance with the established methods and practices. Coordinate work assignments with other maintenance staff members and grounds personnel.
Responsibilities:
This position may include, but is not limited to, the following duties: Perform assigned tasks, maintaining a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency. Maintain school grounds and play fields through mowing, trimming, raking, pruning, removing debris, irrigating, and fertilizing. Maintain and repair underground sprinkler systems, including start-up and blow-out. Assist with snow removal - plow, snow blow, shovel, and apply sand and de-ice in winter as needed. Safely and effectively operate and maintain commercial mowers, tractors, backhoes, pickup trucks, trailers, snow blowers, and other related tools and equipment. Safely operate and maintain hand and power tools (saws, drills, grinders, chainsaws, nail guns, etc.). Assist with general maintenance and repairs, including but not limited to materials handling & delivery, carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC. Layout and mark (paint) sports fields as directed. Safely apply fertilizer, pesticide, and herbicides at the direction of and under the supervision of the Lead Groundskeeper. Read and follow safety instructions, product labels, and operations manuals. Routinely inspect vehicles and equipment to help ensure that they are in safe operating condition, and report concerns to the Assistant Facilities Director. Help coordinate the work of seasonal grounds employees. May fill in elsewhere in the district in a variety of capacities, including custodial and mail delivery. Maintain confidentiality. Other duties as assigned by the Lead Groundskeeper or Assistant Facilities Director.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent Must be at least 19 years of age Ability to work independently and plan, organize, and accomplish work in a timely manner Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience operating and maintaining machinery Must be able to read, write, do basic math, and communicate effectively (basic computer skills preferred). Must have a valid Washington driver's license and be insured by the district Valid First Aid and CPR certification preferred Ability to safely and effectively operate and maintain commercial mowers, tractors, backhoes, pickup trucks, trailers, and other related tools and equipment (CDL preferred). Minimum of 1 year of experience operating and repairing automatic sprinkler systems Valid pesticide/herbicide applicator's license or ability to obtain within 180 days 2 years of experience with general maintenance and repairs, including but not limited to materials handling & delivery, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation): Groundskeeper / Maintenance Tech must be capable of standing, walking, kneeling, and bending without restriction. Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry objects frequently, weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work at heights (on ladders, lifts, roofs, etc.) and under extreme hot and cold temperatures. Must be able to work in environments with dust, allergens, chemicals, and loud noises, and be willing to wear appropriate personal protective equipment when required.

As outlined by and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) of Deer Park Public School Employees Association (PSE) and the Policies and Procedures of Deer Park School District. Salary:
The 2025-26 base salary range for maintenance in the Deer Park School District is between $23.37 - $27.08 per hour. Placement is determined by school district experience. Other forms of compensation may be available to the hired applicant in addition to their established salary range or wage scale as defined within the current collective bargaining agreement (CBA).
