Performs skilled grounds maintenance and operational support work for the City's golf course and related facilities. Responsibilities include turf maintenance, irrigation system operation and repair, landscape maintenance, equipment operation, and preparation of golf course features and facilities for daily use. The position operates a variety of specialized grounds maintenance equipment and performs assigned maintenance activities independently or as part of a crew. Employees may be assigned ongoing responsibility for designated maintenance areas or operational functions and will provide lead support during the absence of the golf course superintendent. Work requires technical knowledge of golf course maintenance practices, safe equipment operation, and the ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Essential Job Duties Essential Functions Golf Course & Grounds Maintenance Maintains turf areas through mowing, trimming, edging, aerating, fertilizing, seeding, irrigation, and chemical treatment activities. Performs routine golf course maintenance activities including preparing greens, tees, bunkers, cart paths, and other golf course features for daily play. Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation systems and related components. Maintains trees, shrubs, flowers, and landscaped areas through planting, pruning, weeding, thinning, and related horticultural activities. Removes debris, leaves, snow, mud, and other materials from sidewalks, pathways, courts, and grounds areas. Construction & Repair Support Assists with construction and landscaping projects including installation or modification of golf course features, pathways, irrigation systems, and landscape improvements. Performs excavation, grading, trenching, sod installation, and related grounds construction activities. Assists with installation or repair of park and recreation amenities as assigned. Equipment Operation & Maintenance Operates mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, string trimmers, and other grounds maintenance equipment safely and effectively. Performs routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance including fluid checks, cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs. Assists with equipment adjustments and maintenance activities including reel lapping and mower adjustments. Reports equipment deficiencies or repair needs to report to golf course equipment tech. Facility Support & Operations Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and public use areas. Assists with preparation and support for City-sponsored events, tournaments, and recreation activities. Supports daily golf course operations and maintenance scheduling as assigned. Lead Support Responsibilities Will coordinate maintenance activities during the absence of superintendent. May provide guidance or direction to seasonal or temporary employees regarding assigned tasks and operational routines. Supports prioritization of daily maintenance activities to maintain golf course conditions and operational standards. Perform other related duties as assigned Decision Rights & Problem Solving Exercises judgment in identifying maintenance priorities, equipment needs, and turf or irrigation issues within assigned work areas. Adjusts maintenance activities based on weather conditions, operational demands, and course conditions. Identifies and reports maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and operational issues requiring corrective action. Supervision Received /Exercised Received:

Golf Course maintenance staff, Parks & Recreation staff, seasonal employees, and other City departments involved in facility operations, maintenance, and special events.External:
Golf course patrons, vendors, contractors, tournament participants, and community members regarding golf course operations and facility conditions. Selection Criteria Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED.Special Requirements:
Obtain a Washington State Department of Agriculture Public Pesticide Operator's License within 6 months. Valid Washington State Driver License and acceptable driving record. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Golf course maintenance principles and turf management practices. Grounds maintenance tools, equipment, and operational procedures. Irrigation system operation, maintenance, and repair techniques. Safe operation of power tools, mowers, tractors, and related equipment. Landscaping, horticultural, and basic construction practices. Following written and verbal instructions and maintaining accurate work routines. Prioritizing maintenance activities while maintaining operational standards. Working effectively with coworkers and interacting professionally with the public. Distinguishing Characteristics This is a skilled maintenance classification responsible for performing specialized golf course and grounds maintenance activities. The position performs assigned maintenance work with increasing independence and technical proficiency. Employees may provide lead direction for specific operational areas or maintenance activities. Work involves operation of specialized turf maintenance equipment, irrigation systems, and grounds maintenance tools.. Preferred Qualifications Certificate from an accredited school in Turfgrass or Golf Course Management. Certification in CPR and basic first aid. Experience in golf course maintenance, grounds maintenance, landscaping, or related field operations. Tools & Technology Turf maintenance equipment and mowers Irrigation systems and related tools Hand and power tools Utility vehicles and tractors Standard communication and operational tools Other information (if any) specific to this position Working Conditions & Physical Demands Work is performed in field and operational environments and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic, equipment, noise, uneven terrain, and other typical worksite conditions. Duties may require prolonged standing or walking, climbing, bending, reaching, and heavy lifting, as well as operating tools, equipment, or vehicles. Work may include travel between job sites, emergency response, evening or weekend assignments based on operational needs.
