Job Overview The East Troy Community School District has an opportunity for a full-time Assistant Groundskeeper. An Assistant Groundskeeper helps maintain the grounds and helps to maintain the physical plant facilities in a condition of operating excellence and safety so that full educational and public use of them may be made at all times. The nature of the tasks within this job description will require independent decision making and the ability to work unsupervised.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Cut lawn using hand, power mower, and riding mower Trim and edge around walks, flower beds with clippers, weed cutters and edging tools Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth Rake and bag leaves Clean grounds and remove litter Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs as needed Water lawn and shrubs as needed Assist in repairing fences, gates, bleachers, playgrounds, and ball parks as needed Paint fences and playgrounds as directed Assist in marking all fields and parking lots Perform snow removal and salting Serve as a substitute custodian for the day shift as needed Serve as a substitute bus driver as needed, if CDL-licensed Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Buildings & Grounds
NECESSARY SKILLS/ABILITIES AND TEMPERAMENTS
Knowledge of plant types, fertilizers, and best practices for sustainable grounds maintenance Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail Commitment to high standards and ethics - professionalism Commitment to professional growth and improvement Assists in maintaining parking lots, athletic fields, baseball diamonds, softball diamonds, and other district grounds and playing fields in a safe usable condition Conducts maintenance procedures and grounds services in such a manner so that the safety and health of all persons using the facilities are protected. Provides support under the direction and/or guidance of the head groundskeeper and/or director of buildings and grounds in the areas of preventative maintenance and facility equipment repair Assists in maintenance tasks and basic tasks of cleaning and other types of work commonly expected in the overall operation of maintaining school buildings and grounds Assists in the preventative maintenance and repair on district grounds equipment as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training in horticulture, landscaping, or related field preferred Minimum of 1 year of groundskeeping experience required Must hold a current Wisconsin Pesticide Applicator License or obtain within one year of hire Experience in operating groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, trimmers, snowplows, and all other related machinery and tools Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and moving heavy loads, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and standing for long periods Valid Wisconsin driver's license required; CDL preferred (Commercial Driver's License B class with passenger and school bus endorsement) Ability to develop positive constructive relations with students, staff, and public, and present a positive image of the district East Troy Community School District is located in southeastern Wisconsin, conveniently located 40 miles from Milwaukee and 60 miles southeast of Madison.
