Job Description

Under general direction, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of turf throughout the park system. Work varies, requiring interpretative judgment within prescribed standards and procedures. Operate various types of trucks and light equipment; performs manual labor in the maintenance, repair and minor construction of park grounds and facilities. Maintain material and equipment inventory. Service and maintain equipment used in the maintenance of turf and park grounds. Develop annual and seasonal turf maintenance schedules for the park system. Maintain accurate records. Evaluate and develop solutions for turf restoration. Oversee the watering, seeding, and maintenance of park landscaping projects. Maintain turf with applications of herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers. Maintain turf through such practices as irrigating, mowing, edging, aerating, top dressing and over-seeding. Maintain effective working relations with facility users. Assist irrigation specialist with irrigation installation, repair, maintenance, plumbing, and related tasks. Perform overtime as required and other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION - RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS
: Assist with the supervision of seasonal workers in field work as assigned.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
: Ability to read and comprehend written material. Ability to listen and apply information and instructions. Ability to understand mathematical concepts to include basic arithmetic. Ability to organize information for concise written records.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
: Requires a high school diploma/GED and two (2) years' experience in turf maintenance. Degree in turf grass and landscape management, horticulture, or similar field preferred. Must have experience with turf products, product labels, herbicide and fertilizer application, and knowledge of calibration of equipment for turf management. EPA pesticide applicator's license preferred or ability to earn within 6 months of hire. Must possess a valid driver's license.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND WORK AIDS USED
: Pickup, trailers, self-contained sprayers, stand-on sprayer/spreader, turf tractor with attachments, dump trucks, backhoe, tractors and attachments, bobcat, bucket truck, hand and power tools, two-way radios, sprayers, utility vehicles, mowers, weed whips, chain saw, tree spade and seeder.
