Seasonal Enforcement Technician

The role of the Natural Resources Enforcement Technician is to assist the Natural Resources Director with the enforcement of state weed & pest laws throughout Pennington County. Take direction from the Natural Resources Director to complete tasks as assigned with no supervision. Identify invasive species and protected or endangered species. Mix, load, and apply pesticides in full accordance with label. Apply pesticides at proper rates. Maintain proper and accurate daily application records. Assists in building, maintaining, and repairing equipment, Uses GPS/GIS for mapping natural resources, invasive species and forestry management. Education Required:

High school diploma or GED certificate. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license. Certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator in South Dakota. Certification in All Terrain Vehicle Safety Operation.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards. Must be able to frequently sit, walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull, hike steep inclines, use pesticide application equipment, GPS unites, pick-ups & 1-ton trucks, ATV/UTV vehicles, various shop equipment, power tools and manual dexterity is needed to type, write, use a calculator, and answer telephone. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 50 lbs. unassisted; and lift/move more than 50 lbs. with assistance. Must be able to communicate effectively; talk, listen, and speak clearly on telephone and in-person. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). No allergic reactions to pesticides.

Working Environment:

Work is performed in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments, where the employee is exposed to weather conditions including; cold and/or hot weather, outdoor hazards, moving mechanical parts, and traffic. Noise level may be loud at times Overtime hours may be required to meet project deadlines. Travel throughout and outside the County for trainings and meetings; some may require overnight travel.
