Job Description
Greenhouse Hand About Us AARS is a client-centered residential treatment program serving adults with substance use and co-occurring disorders across Alaska. We integrate therapeutic work opportunities, including greenhouse operations, into recovery-focused care. Position Summary The Greenhouse Hand is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of AARS greenhouses. This role supports plant cultivation, environmental management, and inventory tracking while assisting in supervising and guiding clients participating in greenhouse-related therapeutic work. Key Responsibilities Greenhouse and plant operations include growing, cultivating, and harvesting plants Monitoring and regulating greenhouse conditions such as temperature, humidity, and irrigation Identifying and treating plant diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies; applying fertilizers and pesticides safely; and maintaining planting schedules and forecasting plant production. Maintenance and inventory duties include maintaining cleanliness and organization of greenhouse facilities, performing routine maintenance and equipment inspections, tracking and reporting inventory of plants, produce, tools, and supplies, and submitting monthly reports on production and usage. Client support responsibilities include assisting in supervising client work assignments in the greenhouse, supporting therapeutic work experiences in coordination with clinical staff, documenting client participation and progress, and maintaining confidentiality in compliance with state and federal laws. Administrative and team duties include maintaining logs, records, and compliance documentation, attending staff meetings and required trainings, assisting with staff training on greenhouse operations, and responding to emergencies as needed. Qualifications Required qualifications include a high school diploma or GED Knowledge or experience in plant care, horticulture, or agriculture Ability to lift 50 or more pounds and perform physical labor A valid Alaska driver's license with an insurable record Ability to pass a background check with variance consideration if applicable Basic computer and record-keeping skills CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain them, and a TB test within 30 days of hire.
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience working in behavioral health, social services, or recovery settings Familiarity with Alaska Native cultures, knowledge of irrigation systems and greenhouse operations Alaska Water and Wastewater Operator certification for a small system Experience working with diverse or vulnerable populations.Benefits:
