Position Title:
Ohana Higher Level of Care Milieu Supervisor Department:
Ohana Higher Level of Care Reports to: Assistant Nurse Director Position Summary Under the leadership of the Ohana Assistant Nurse Director, the Milieu Supervisors are responsible for overseeing the therapeutic environment (milieu) of the adolescents in the higher level of care programs (residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient). This role involves ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive environment that promotes the well-being and recovery of patients. Milieu Supervisors strive to ensure families are at the center of programming. The higher level of care core therapeutic programming is based on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy within a milieu structure based on principles of behaviorism and learning. They utilize a level system in residential and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) in the partial hospital and intensive outpatient programs as well as relational learning via Collaborative Problem Solving. The Milieu Supervisor will incorporate these modalities in formal and informal aspects of programming and treatment delivery. The Milieu Supervisor will coordinate and guide the patient and family experience throughout the care progression. The Milieu Supervisor works collaboratively with the Ohana Higher Level of Care Nurse Supervisors, Milieu Supervisor colleague(s), Clinical Supervisor, and Ohana Clinical Director to incorporate patient care strategies that support quality outcomes across levels of care.Key Responsibilities Milieu Oversight:
- Maintain and ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.
- Monitor and maintain the physical and emotional safety of patients.
- Collaboratively develop, implement and uphold program policies, procedures, and standards.
Staff Supervision:
- Supervise and provide leadership to milieu staff, including participation in hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
- Conduct team meetings related to patient care and support professional development.
- Ensure adherence to protocols and best practices.
- Develop and mentor a high-performing team.
Patient Support:
- Build positive relationships with patients and their families.
- Address concerns and mediate conflicts, ensuring respectful and constructive resolution.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement individualized care plans.
Program Development:
- Assist in the design and implementation of therapeutic activities and interventions.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of milieu interventions and suggest improvements.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices and integrate into care practices.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to milieu operations and patient care.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Participate in program planning, development, and evaluation processes.
- May support weekend, evening, or holiday coverage based on program needs.
Crisis Management:
- Lead crisis intervention efforts alongside colleagues, providing support and guidance.
- Develop and implement crisis management protocols and training for staff.
Experience and Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, child development, education, school administration, or a related field required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with children/adolescents with behavioral challenges in a mental health or educational setting is required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with families of children/adolescents is required.
- Experience with behaviorism is required.
- Experience working with people with serious mental illness or co-occurring disorders preferred.
- Experience facilitating mental health groups using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is preferred.
- Experience with Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) and/or Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is preferred.
- Experience as a trainer or preceptor within specialty field is preferred.
- Experience in a supervisory or managerial role is preferred.

- Knowledge of therapeutic interventions and best practices in mental health care.
- Proficiency in documentation and record-keeping.
Certifications:
- American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.
- Crisis intervention training preferred.
Assigned Work Hours:
Primarily Monday- Friday day shift hours.
Position Type:
