Job Description
Dairy Herdsman Position Summary:
The Dairy Herdsman is responsible for overseeing daily dairy operations, including herd health, reproduction, milking, feeding, and employee management. This role ensures cows are well cared for, employees are productive, and the dairy runs efficiently.Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily operations: herd health, reproduction, milking, feeding, and facility upkeep. Lead and manage employees through training, scheduling, and performance oversight. Monitor cow health, behavior, and production to maintain high standards. Follow veterinarian and management protocols. Plan, delegate, and perform daily tasks including milking, calf care, bedding, scraping, and cleaning. Maintain accurate records and track performance metrics. Manage feed, supplies, and inventory. Ensure proper sanitation, biosecurity, and regulatory compliance. Identify maintenance needs and communicate repairs.Qualifications:
3+ years dairy experience with supervisory responsibilities. Experience with AI breeding and milking systems. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Solid understanding of cattle behavior and herd management. Ability to operate heavy equipment.Requirements:
Valid driver's license. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) Ability to lift up to 80 lbs and work in all weather conditions. Available for nights, weekends, and emergencies. Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.What We're Looking For:
