Job Description
Wrangler Coordinator - YMCA Camp Carson Seasonal Paid Position with housing and meals included. The Wrangler Director is to be a crucial member of the YMCA Camp Carson leadership team that ensure the reputation of the camp, as viewed by the community, staff, and YMCA, as a safe place of excellence-in-quality, focused on the mission of the YMCA. Through effective supervision and close attention to mission, the Leadership Team member will assure that YMCA Camp Carson's mission and excellence-in-quality goals are achieved Essential Functions
- Assume responsibility for the planning, preparing, and executing for: Perform pre camp set up of barn and evaluation of horses Perform scheduling staff, campers, and horses of riding program Perform with daily visual observation of all Barn Staff Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment Supervise care and health of horses Supervise Assistant Wrangler Director and two barn staff.
- Maintain a positive attitude that builds a culture of support among peers, and allows children and staff to feel accepted, challenged, and empowered
- Maintain a safety-oriented environment at camp and on off-site trips Take part in lost swimmer drills, missing camper drills, and other drills as needed Reporting safety risks/hazards to Program Directors/Maintenance
- Watches out for the health and safety of his/her staff and campers, especially regarding the following Manages behavior of staff and campers, especially regarding physical, emotional, or verbal abuse of others Appropriate and diligent use of sunscreen, bug spray, encouraging hygienic activities (handwashing, brushing of teeth, showering), observing for signs of illness (sniffles, rashes, blisters, itching, etc.
- Takes an active role in all parts of Camp culture when on site, including but not limited to the following: Attending and taking part in morning chapel, supervising and engaging with staff and kids at the dining hall - encouraging healthy and pleasant meals, leading devotions in the cabin, taking part in all camp games or activities, leading cabin activities in the afternoon, preparing to meet and greet families on Opening and Closing Day, as well as attending all staff meetings.
- Maintaining a positive Camp Program on and off site Delivering safe, fun, challenging programming that promotes skill development One site: Keeping up with planning and executing themes, evening programs, Wednesday afternoon programming, campouts, Hootenanny, BMS (body, mind and spirit), and weekly scheduling of own specific roles.
- Assume an active role to incorporate nature, conversation and earth awareness
- Compliance with all COVID related PPE, cleaning, reporting and prevention expectations efforts. Further training and detail will be provided upon question and/or hire.
- Assume additional responsibilities deemed necessary by camp directors
- Be an agent of light-hearted inspiration and creativity
- Ability to serve and respond in a positive, respectful, timely, and caring manner to a diverse group of staff and campers - ultimately serving the mission of YMCA of Southwestern Indiana, Inc. Desired Certifications/Experience
- Experience in Western Horseback Riding and teaching others how to do ride.
- Experience in Barn Maintenance and Horse Care Physical Requirements
- Walking (3 miles a day)

- Crouching/Stooping
- Kneeling/Sitting Mental and Emotional Requirements
- Capable of effective and appropriate mental emotional and social interaction in camp's fast paced youth centered and changing environment.
- Possess the strength and stamina to maintain a constant and engaging supervision of campers for up to 9 weeks, given two hours off per day and 24 consecutive hours off per week of work, granted during the breaks between sessions. Stamina includes the ability to remain alert, friendly and courteous, and patient
- Prolonged periods of social interactions often without individual alone time.
