Job Description

Historic New England (HNE) seeks a full-time Assistant Greenhouse Manager responsible for supporting operations and public activities at the Lyman Estate in Waltham, MA. This picturesque historic site is one of the oldest greenhouses in the country, welcoming visitors and shoppers for a unique experience throughout the year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides expert plant advice and excellent customer service to the public to support business operations. Maintains greenhouse environment and sanitation including; cleaning, organizing, venting, and maintaining equipment and tools. Works with greenhouse manager on inventory management and placement of plants, hard goods and retail merchandise. Serves as acting manager when Greenhouse Manager is not on the sales floor or available. Is a key holder and assists with open/close procedures as well as emergency response. Records visitation and garden club data for use by the greenhouse and administration. Answers questions about Historic New England and promotes membership. Manages and presents group tours and assists with all greenhouse programs and events.
QUALIFICATIONS
One year job-related experience and the ability to work independently. Working knowledge of perennials, tropicals, and orchids. Strong communication and customer service skills. Fully competent computer skills including word-processing, spread sheets, cashiering, social media and email. General plant culture knowledge. Ability to work weekend and evening hours as required. Strong belief in, and demonstrated commitment to, Historic New England's mission and values. Commitment to the highest standards of professionalism, excellence, and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA). Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of pesticide application for all plant material. General working knowledge of the greenhouse environment, sanitation, ventilation and small equipment.
