40/hrs Week; Dependent on funding availability. June 15th - Aug 14thSALARY/PAY RATE
$18/Hour Description:
Oversee and support youth participating in the Indigenous Youth Nursery Sumer Program at J. W. Toumey Nursery as part of the Gete-Miinikaanan partnership. Responsible for coordinating youth's daily tasks, communicating with Nursery and project managers, ensuring youth safety, and fostering a positive, educational work environment. The Supervisor will work alongside the youth throughout the day in their daily functions. This is an exciting opportunity to get to know the workings of a National Forest system nursery, while helping to uplift LVD Tribal youth and nurture the trees used to restore public lands. Responsibilities (Including but Not Limited to):- Report to J. W. Toumey Nursery at 6am daily
- Supervise and mentor a 2+3 youth participants (ages 16-18)
- Ensure youth adherence to safety protocols
- Model professional workplace behavior and teamwork
- Track attendance and coordinate daily schedules and breaks
- Communicate regularly with program manager and Nursery staff
- Support conflict resolution and behavior management as needed
- Coordinate and work alongside youth in performing nursery tasks.
- Other tasks specified by project and Nursery managers and staff
Minimum Qualifications:
- 18+ years of age
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must have knowledge of the Lac Vieux Desert Ojibwe people and their spiritual, traditional, historical, and ancestral ties of the community, while also agreeing not to publish or otherwise distribute culturally sensitive information to the public without proper consent.
- Knowledge and understanding of missions, organizational goals, and objectives of the Tribe.
- Must be willing to work outdoors and in the field daily.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- The applicant must pass a background check as well as a pre-employment drug test.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with youth in educational, camp, agricultural, or outdoor settings
- Supervisory or leadership experience (formal or informal)
- Comfort working outdoors in variable weather conditions
- Ability to give clear instructions and maintain professional demeanor
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Basic familiarity with plants, horticulture, agriculture, or a willingness to learn quickly
- Reliability, patience, and sound judgment
