Description:
Overlooking beautiful Cayuga Lake, our Garden Center is located a few miles north of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Cayuga Landscape has been in business for over 48 years and operates a 25-acre farm nursery, a 4-acre garden center, and a design-build landscape operation, with total employment of about 50. Garden Center employment is about 8 to 10. We are an inclusive company. We are seeking a creative, well-organized horticultural manager for a 10 or 12 month position. Qualifications of the
Ideal Candidate:
A degree in Horticulture or a closely related field 5-10 years of experience with retail horticulture management Supervisory experience for smooth workflow, including staff hiring and scheduling Detailed knowledge of hardy woody plants and perennials of the Northeast, including their cultivars Good knowledge of horticultural practices, pruning, disease ID + treatment, pest management, etc. Good written and spoken communication skills Adeptness with sales + marketing, including ad copy design Positive personality with facility for motivating staff + providing cheerful, patient customer service Fluency with Windows + iOS, Microsoft Office suite, and other common business computer programs for budgeting, pricing, marketing, and estimating purposes Excellent business skills, including leadership, initiative, time management, inventory management, and proficiency with math Ability to lift 50 lbs. Clean driving record Availability to work at least one weekend day/week during a 10 month season is mandatory Pay +
Benefits:
Pay will be on an hourly basis, at $25-30/hour, depending on experience Overtime pay in busy seasons Health insurance, employer pays 70% for the individual (Dental/vision available) Retirement plan, approximately 4% of salary, after first year Vacation, 1 week in first year Continuing education opportunities
