Job Description

Role The Propagation Specialist reports directly to the Lead Grower and assists and works closely with all propagation team members and the Director of Perennial Growing Operations in maintaining and developing a productive stock plant program and carrying out all other propagation tasks to provide high-quality plants for production. This role also provides day-to-day guidance, training, and support to propagation staff, helping to coordinate workflow, monitor task completion, and promote accountability and teamwork within the department. Maintaining a safe environment, having a positive attitude, working as a team, and adapting to change are essential for this role. Primary Duties and Responsibilities 1. Manage and oversee stock plant program through: a. Maintaining healthy and sufficient quantities of stock plants, refreshing as needed b. Tracking and maintaining stock inventory c. Assisting with planning and program development for stock materials d. Monitoring and preparing stock plants for stock materials through multiple avenues including, but not limited to, trimming, pesticide applications, watering, and PGR applications e. Lead and coordinate weekly sticking schedules to ensure production targets and deadlines are met 2. Assist in training, mentoring, and supporting propagation staff to ensure consistency, efficiency, quality standards, and adherence to company procedures 3. Oversee and direct plant health practices for all crops in the propagation houses a. Ensure proper irrigation and humidity levels throughout all plant stages through hand watering and mist system management b. Regularly monitor crops for diseases and pests c. Serve as the primary person responsible for pesticide and plant growth regulator applications within all propagation areas to ensure optimal crop health and success i. Maintain accurate records and ensure all pesticide applications are completed safely and in compliance with company policies and state regulations d. Manage plant fertility at injection points 4. Propagation tasks a. Assist with receiving and preparing cuttings b. Assist and provide support to propagation team members during sticking processes c. Coordinate with seeder on seed tasks d. Enter propagation data into system on a regular basis e. Contribute to propagation protocols database and work to continuously improve propagation success f. Help organize and prioritize daily propagation tasks and assist team members with general plant care including trimming, weeding, cleaning, and dumping 5. Coordination, Planning, and Team Support a. Assist in the coordination of weekly stick and seed lists b. Assist in the coordination of space in Prop 1, 2, & 3 for cuttings, seedings, and plugs c. Coordinate with Plug manager on preparation for planting 6. Maintain cleanliness and organization in all areas 7. Work to continuously improve workflow, productivity, efficiency, and plant health 8. Assist with any task that will increase Perennial Favorites performance Additional Duties and Responsibilities 1. Assist in other departments as determined by Perennial Favorites needs including production, shipping, field work, etc. 2. Continued education with trade shows, classes, trial gardens, etc. 3. Collaborate with owners/managers on expansion and direction of business 4. Comply with all Perennial Favorites policies and procedures 5. Follow all safety policies and procedures to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment 6. Oversee, monitor and direct coordination of company issued equipment, to include communication devices, laptops, iPads and tools 7. Weekend watering turn 8. Assist with Perennial Favorites equipment repair and maintenance 9. All other tasks that management deems necessary Physical Demands Frequent lifting from 5-30 lbs, unassisted Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling Sustained periods of heat, cold, bright conditions, and humidity Requirements Obtain and/or maintain a Private Pesticide Applicator license through Utah Dept. of Agriculture Strong knowledge and understanding of plant varieties, propagation techniques, and crop culture requirements Ability to organize workflow, prioritize tasks, and maintain productivity in a fast-paced environment Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with team members and management Ability to train, support, and provide guidance to propagation staff Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of working experience in plant propagation and/or nursery industry 2+ years of education in horticulture or related field Experience with pesticide application, plant health management, and irrigation systems Experience coordinating workflow or leading teams in a greenhouse or nursery environment
Compensation & Benefits Hourly Rate:
Based on experience and qualifications o $22.00 to $25.00 an hour dependent on experience
