This position may be downgraded to Park Maintenance Chief II for recruitment purposes. The Chief II candidate may be promoted in place to a Chief III after at least one year of satisfactory performance. The reporting location for this position is the Sierra District Office at Ed Z'berg Sugar Pine Point State Park in Tahoma, CA. This position will work under the general direction of the District Superintendent. This position administers the Facilities and Maintenance Services Program for 17 parks in six counties of the Sierra District, which includes campgrounds, visitor centers, house museums, natural preserves, a state natural reserve, state historic parks, state parks and state recreation areas. The District Maintenance Chief is responsible for the District-wide maintenance program, and manages Road and Trail Operations, Equipment Maintenance, Historic Building Stabilization and Restoration, Water and Sewer Systems and daily maintenance. This position directly supervises (1) Park Maintenance Chief II, and (3) Park Maintenance Chief I's. The incumbent's work schedule will be Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Training and Development Assignments may be considered This position is designated as not telework eligible. This position requires a valid Class C driver's license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver's license on your application. Working Conditions This position involves substantial office work, but also includes working outdoors under inclement weather and adverse conditions, hiking over uneven terrain. Regularly interacts with staff, administrators, and park visitors. A special consideration in the Sierra District is severe winter weather conditions requiring extensive snow removal in most park units. One park is accessible only with over-snow vehicles for 5 or more months each year. In addition, it is a 6-hour drive from one end of the District to the other.
