Park Ranger Salary $34,174.00 - $39,512.00 Annually Location Altamonte Springs, FL Job Type Full Time Job Number 202600050 Department Leisure Services Division Park Rangers Opening Date 05/06/2026 FLSA Non-Exempt Description Benefits Questions Position Overview This position plays a key role in maintaining safe, welcoming, and enjoyable parks and recreation spaces for the community. Through park patrols, visitor assistance, facility maintenance, and event support, this role helps protect City amenities while enhancing the overall experience for residents and visitors. The work performed in this position supports public safety, environmental stewardship, and the day-to-day operations that allow community spaces and programs to remain accessible, attractive, and well-maintained. Position Functions Responsible for assigned park maintenance and operations, including supervision and security oversight of visitors at City parks and recreation centers. Conduct patrols of the park to ensure visitor safety, observe suspicious persons, identify hazardous conditions, detour depreciative behavior among visitors and report any significant activity to the appropriate authorities, assisting when needed. Offer detailed information on programs, events, and park amenities while ensuring clear communication of instructions and directions to the public. Handle visitor inquires, fill out incident reports to include follow-ups, collect and report user fees. Communicate over hand-held radios. Provide first aid services to visitors. Operate various duty stations within the park. Includes trashing, restroom maintenance, minor electrical, carpentry and irrigation work. Operate small equipment and use of tools in a safe and proper manner. Provide traffic control along the roads/paths. Install/remove plants within the park as per permit requires and for aesthetics. Remove trees, chipping branches, pull stumps, clear brush, trim branches and control sediment. Assist in the maintenance and beautification of City parks. Be a team player in accomplishing Departmental goals and communicate with supervisors so that community concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Assist in the operations of special events, to include set-up, strike, trash pick-up, road closures, park security, area closures, etc. Complete required trainings as specifiedwithin the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description. Drive to and from City work sites. Perform additional duties as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs. Drive the Passenger Tram, when needed. Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of professional experience in customer service environment, or an equivalent combination of education/experience. High school diploma or G.E.D. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays and outdoors. Valid driver license. Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.
PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in electrical systems. Experience in irrigation systems. Experience in plumbing systems. Associates degree in Parks, Recreation, Leisure Services or related field. Experience as a Security Officer or similar type profession. Valid American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid Certification. Must obtain within three (3) months of employment. Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies. Supplemental Information Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening. Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12). Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance/ declination of vaccination form is required.
