Job Description
This is a part-time position responsible for assisting with the care and maintenance of natural areas and areas designated as City of Miami Natural Forest Communities. Work involves leading public engagements through tours and educational presentations, and assisting with exotic plant species removal and ecosystem restoration activities. General supervision is received from the Senior Park Naturalist or designee. Duties may include, but are not limited to: conducting education or interpretive programs with age or audience specific focuses; conducting hands-on exotic removal requirement based on project needs and timeline; assisting with volunteer groups during scheduled events; performing maintenance and light cleaning such as picking up trash, pulling weeds, vacuuming, dusting, tidying restrooms, sweeping and mopping; participating in periodic tours of the park for special groups and for general visitors, explaining the nature of plant growth, technical names of plants, shrubs and trees, and propagation requirements; assisting Park Naturalist on collecting data on plant species at parks and other environmental activities via handheld equipment and computer software; and performing other related work as required. Work is frequently performed in an outside environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, climb, stoop, squat, kneel, lift from floor, file, and use hand to eye coordination. An employee occasionally will pull, push, reach and lift below and over shoulders, lift up to 50 lbs, use hand and finger dexterity, and work under stress. Must be at least 18 years of age and possess one (1) year of experience conducting interpretive programs in an outdoor setting or in a related position with organizations such as museums, camps, outdoor activity programs, or environmental protection programs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A valid Driver's License from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E Driver's License) may be utilized upon application; however, prior to appointment, a valid State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Human Resources and maintained valid throughout employment.SPECIAL NOTE
