Job Description

PCEI AmeriCorps/MAMBA Trail Ambassador Project Sponsor:
Moscow Area Mountain Bike Association (MAMBA)
Position Summary:
The Moscow Area Mountain Bike Association is an Idaho nonprofit corporation with the purpose of creating, enhancing, and preserving a sustainable, publicly accessible trail system on the Palouse. MAMBA is committed to being good stewards of the land, to respect the wishes of landowners, and to strive in all activities to leave the land in better condition than we found it. The MAMBA Trail Ambassador will be the primary advocate for education of trail rules and norms on the MAMBA Trail system on Moscow Mountain. This member will educate visitors about the area, make an inventory of trail work and bridge work needed, lead weekend trail maintenance & do maintenance trail work during the week, staff educational tabling events, lead educational hikes/bike rides, and lead volunteer trail building events that will improve the quality of the trail system on Moscow Mountain.
Member Activities/Duties:
Our member will be the primary advocate for education of trail rules and norms on the MAMBA Trail system on Moscow Mountain. They will be expected to mountain bike 5-10 hours a week to conduct an inventory of the 60 miles of trails. They will lead 1-2 hikes or bike rides per week for the community, focusing on educating new community members about the mountain. They will be expected to lead 1-2 trail digs per week, each lasting 2-3 hours. A main project will be to design, market, and lead a weeklong 'trail crew corps style' trail maintenance camp for youth and/or seniors in the community. They will be expected to table 1-2 times a week at community events or at a trailhead to educate the community about MAMBA Trails.
Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
  • Must possess high school diploma or equivalent or commit to earning one prior to receiving award.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Must be able to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying.
  • Must successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check provided through PCEI.
  • Must complete and submit all necessary PCEI AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
  • Must commit to and attend and complete all PCEI AmeriCorps training and service requirements including orientation, trainings, team meetings and national service days.
  • Must wear AmeriCorps uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events.
  • This program is available to all, without discrimination based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, pregnancy, religion, age, national origin, genetic information, disability, military status, familial status, political affiliation, or any other characteristic protected by law.
Position Requirements/Preferred Skills:
  • Must know how to ride a mountain bike.
  • Must be able to hike 4-6 miles and carry up to 40lbs in a day.
  • Must be able to present an outdoor professional presence and interact with the community in a positive manner.
  • Must be able to oversee and teach technical trail building skills to the community in a safe and productive manner after receiving training on that process.
  • Our ideal candidate has First Aid/CPR certification, but it is not required. MAMBA will pay for First Aid/CPR training if needed. Member Benefits Include
  • A taxable, monthly living allowance totaling $5,772 distributed as 6 payments of approximately $962 each for a 3-month/450-hour term.
  • Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members receive an education award in the amount of $1,956.35 that can be used to repay qualified student loans or for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational or trade schools. The education award is taxed in the year that it is used.
  • Loan forbearance (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable.)
  • Childcare allowance for those who qualify.
  • Mental Health Program (Member Assistance Program)
  • access to virtual counseling sessions and mental health resources.
  • Access to a Member Emergency Financial Assistance fund for medical, housing, transportation emergencies.
  • Professional development, trainings and networking opportunities.

Moscow, ID. Members are responsible for their own transportation to and from the project location(s).
