Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Camp Ranger provides general maintenance and custodial services at designated camps in accordance with the council's policies and standards. This position requires travel to the properties and delivery destinations within the council's jurisdiction. The Assistant Camp Ranger works closely with the Director of Property/Camp Ranger, camp directors, volunteers, council staff and non-members to ensure that troop, day and overnight campers and outside groups have a successful and safe camping experience.MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
Ensures that all assigned properties are well maintained. Uses initiative to perform year-round grounds maintenance which includes but is not limited to snow removal, trail clearing, road maintenance and lawn mowing. Cleans and maintains interior and exterior of all buildings; follows the yearly maintenance schedule developed jointly with the Property Director/Camp Ranger and makes repairs as necessary. Monitors designated site and facilities for damage caused by weather, vandalism or other causes and reports findings to the Property Director/Camp Ranger and/or local authorities. Monitors and maintains all property boundaries, gates and posted signs to discourage unauthorized access onto camp property. Provides support to camp directors, volunteers, staff and non-members for camp projects, events and outings. Checks in and out troops and groups at the designated dates and times and provides requisitioned equipment to ensure a successful camping experience. Develops and maintains positive interpersonal relationships with neighbors, vendors and contractors in surrounding communities. Effectively monitors and maintains the designated camp's natural resources, wildlife, facilities and utilities in accordance with Federal, State and Local laws/codes and council guidelines. Keeps the Property Director/Camp Ranger informed of all necessary repairs (major and minor) and complies with the established budgets set by the Property Director/Camp Ranger. Monitors camp users for compliance with council property rules and regulations. Safely operate all council owned, leased or rented vehicles and equipment. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Property/Camp Ranger, some duties may vary dependent on camp location.MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduate or equivalent. At least one (1) year of experience in maintenance.Demonstrated knowledge of building trades:
plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical and basic engineering concepts. Proven ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment and common sense in determining priorities and carrying out essential tasks. Ability to plan and organize tasks independently and complete them in a timely manner. Experience with a variety of power tools, heavy equipment and the ability to maintain, repair and safely use them. Ability to work in higher elevations. Familiarity with health, safety and fire prevention procedures. Experience and demonstrated sensitivity in working with persons of varied racial, ethnic, social and economic backgrounds. Understanding of environmental conservation principles. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to manage budgets effectively. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and to interact professionally and tactfully with people from all backgrounds and cultures in person and by telephone. Willing and able to travel, approximately 15% of the time, on prior notice throughout GSSI jurisdiction. Willing and able to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Ability and willingness to present a professional appearance and positive attitude while representing Girl Scouts within the organization (to parents, volunteers, co-workers, etc.) and throughout the broader community. Capable of physical labor, exert up to 100 pounds of force. Must have valid driver's license and the minimum state required insurance.
