Knowledge, Skills & Experience This position is well suited for someone with a friendly and positive personality who is productive and shows initiative, is an effective written and oral communicator, is reliable and safety-minded.
Required:
High School Graduate. Must have knowledge of the building hours of operation, policies and procedures. Ability to comfortably and safely handle a variety of exotic animals including: reptiles (snakes, turtles), mammals, insects, etc. Maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification and DCFS Mandated Reporter Certification or obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Essential Functions of the Position Park District Cornerstones Follow all departmental safety rules that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of Park District's safety and risk management program. Work cooperatively and collaboratively with residents, colleagues, the public, PDRMA and other agencies or organizations as delegated. Recommends improvements and efficiencies to better accomplish individual and district goals in the best interests of the St. Charles Park District community. Comply with Park District policies and administrative procedures. Responsibilities Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent of Parks and Planning, the Assistant Superintendent of Outdoor Education and the Manager of Nature Programs, the HKDC Facility Attendant shall complete their assigned duties to the best of their abilities, offering suggestions of better ways to accomplish tasks and be ever mindful of the best interests of the Park District and fellow employees. This position is part-time as defined within the Park District's Personnel Manual. This position requires extensive knowledge and ability to: Be physically able to set up/tear down furnishings for building rentals as required. Be responsible for admission of the general public or renters into the facility. Perform daily animal care and exhibit maintenance duties. Perform front desk/reception duties including handling patron phone calls, assisting patrons with purchases through point-of-sale equipment operations, and interacting with facility visitors. Be responsible for timely preparation and cleaning of rental spaces to meet client needs. Provide patrons with a favorable impression of the Hickory Knolls Discovery Center Enforce all building rules. Courteously, promptly, and correctly answer all patron questions. Maintain that the public areas are clean and welcoming for all patrons. Perform general maintenance and cleaning functions as assigned. This includes but is not limited to; room set up/tear down, wiping of tables/chairs, trash removal and general cleaning as needed before, during or after rentals. The ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. The ability to utilize and troubleshoot with computers, A/V equipment and other technological devices. The ability to follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Park District's safety program. Report any serious problems and/or situations to the Assistant Superintendent of Outdoor Education and/or the Manager of Nature Programs.
