Full Job Description Description:
The Summer Youth Employment Program is a temporary, summer program for Flint teens, ages 16-19 years old (must be 16-19 on or before June 15, 2026), funded by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The purpose of the program is to promote natural resource-based employment opportunities, professional development, and natural resource recreation and education to youth within the city of Flint to complete activities such as blight elimination, landscaping and lawn maintenance, park maintenance and urban gardening. Those hired will also be provided: Work-related soft-skills training such as resume building, interviewing and exposure to workplace culture Exposure to various outdoor recreational opportunities Job training and supervision All applicants must be residents of the city of Flint and provide proof of free reduced lunch, low income (e.g., provide copy of EBT card).
EXPECTATIONS
Ability to accept and follow oral and written instructions given by superior in charge. Ability to learn and apply basic horticultural maintenance and general maintenance practices. Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships. Ability to correctly and safely operate and maintain equipment and tools. Ability to perform physical landscape work.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must live in Flint Being physically able to perform the work Must be able to lift at least 25-50lbs 16-19 on or before June 15, 2026 Proof of free reduced lunch, low income
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Will be required to wear a prescribed work uniform. Must wear protective wear and safety gear when required. Must be courteous in dealing with the general public, supervisor, and fellow staff members.
NOTICE:
A work permit must be supplied by anyone under 18 years of age. They may be obtained at your high school, former high school, or the Administration building for your present or past district.
