Job Description:
The Seasonal Park Ranger independently performs work that supports a safe, quality recreational experience for all visitors, and is a frontline representative of the Grand Traverse County Parks and Recreation department. We expect to hire one position for Civic Center Park and one for Power Island. This position will consist of approximately 10- 20 hours weekly from May through October. Irregular hours including evenings and weekend will be required . It may also require travel by the employee in the employee's own vehicle.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(may include but are not limited to the following) Ensure cleanliness and readiness of parks grounds and facilities Perform janitorial and maintenance services including sweeping, disinfecting, waste disposal, general repairs, restocking supplies and general cleaning Perform grounds maintenance including field preparation , painting, mowing, leaf management , trail maintenance, and tree care Prepares spaces for rentals and monitors rental spaces during event periods to ensure rules compliance Gr eets visitors and provides customer service , offers information, and provides assistance , by phone and in person Maintains outdoor recreational facilities including trails and programming areas Enforce s the rules of the park; this requires the ability to address difficult situations with tact to ensure compliance. Reports incidents and accidents that take place and submit s required documents Utilizes chain of command to seek assistance when needed Assist s coordinators with special projects and volunteer events K now s emergency procedures and maintain s first aid supplies Available to work on-call and flexible schedule Other duties as assigned For Rangers assigned toPower Island:
The Park Ranger is expected to live on the island and be present as a county representative during the assigned shift.EDUCATION, FORMAL TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
( minimum requirements) Graduation from high school, trade school or G.E.D. One year experience in natural resources, public speaking, and parks and recreation preferred May substitute related education and training for experience if there is demonstrated knowledge, ability, and skills to perform the workCERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES
Requires a valid driver's license and may require personal vehicle insurance and must maintain eligibility to drive as per the County's Vehicle policy. CPR and First Aid certification (within first six months of employment) Ability to lift and move heavy objects; up to 5 0 lbs For Rangers assigned toPower Island:
Boating Safety Certificate ( required if born on or after July 1, 1996, recommended otherwise)CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Independent judgment, personal discretion, and resourcefulness are needed to interpret and apply guidelines. Errors at this level could cause serious, long-term consequences involving substantial financial costs, significantly reduced service to the public, and/or negative media reaction and could impact others outside of a department and may require the intervention of an agency head to resolve.PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK ENVIRONMENT, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
May be required to climb or balance; reach with hands and arms; sit; stand; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk and hear; smell; use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Position frequently works in an outdoor environment with exposure to weather-related heat and cold, rain, wind, and related elements. May be exposed to high and precarious places, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, infectious diseases, criminal suspects. May be required to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly Will be required to use appropriate personal protective equipment according to current safety standards and practices. ( minimum requirements) Basic knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, etc. Interpersonal skills necessary to work courteously and effectively with other employees and the public Skill in the use of custodial tools and equipment Must be in good physical health necessary to perform the manual labor tasks Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety code regulations and the safe use of tools, equipment and materials needed to perform tasks Ability to consistently demonstrate sound ethics and judgment Ability to apply sound judgment, solve problems, make effective decisions, and act with integrity Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries Ability to detect basic errors and make corrections as directed and under established procedures Ability to comprehend , process and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job Ability to use County resources effectively and efficientlySimilar remote jobs
