Under direct supervision of the Park Maintenance Supervisor, the Park Operations Manager, or the Assistant Superintendent of Park Construction, Assistant Superintendent of Park Operations and indirect supervision by the Superintendent of Park Operations and Superintendent of Park Planning and Construction, performs a variety of duties involving the maintenance and construction of park grounds and facilities. This position will work 8 hour days, Monday thru Friday.
Job Scope:
May provide indirect work site supervision as crew leader for seasonal employees. No budgetary responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Operates trucks, tractors and a variety of manual power tools in the maintenance construction and repair of park grounds and facilities. 2. Performs maintenance of grounds and facilities as directed, including but not limited to landscape installation, maintenance and upkeep, structure maintenance, basic playground repairs, mulch installation, and minor tree trimming. 3. Makes necessary repairs to park structures and buildings including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and mechanical repairs. 4. Performs construction of park facilities and grounds. Performs minor framing, roofing, and electrical and other remodeling or construction activities. 5. Supports other Divisions in the preparation, set up, execution and cleanup of special events and activities. 6. Undertakes snow removal and ice treatment for areas as assigned. 7. Performs park, trail and playground inspections as assigned. 8. Performs repairs and maintenance to aquatics facilities, fountains, and irrigation systems. 9. Performs trail maintenance and repair. 10. Collaborates with other divisions of the Department in order to ensure delivery of service consistent with Departmental missions and objectives. 11. Ensures the enforcement of park and recreation rules and regulations. 12. Purchases necessary supplies and equipment using department procedures. 13. Participates in professional organizations. 14. Maintain equipment and inventory according to established procedures. 15. Assists with cemetery operations and grounds maintenance as assigned. 16. Installs and removes decorations and other enhancements to parks and facilities for special events and holidays. 17. Performs supervisory duties appropriately as assigned. 18. Performs skilled testing, maintenance and repairs equipment, pumps, motors and safety equipment. 19. Assists in ensuring compliance with budget for assigned areas. 20. Assists with planning, designing and construction in existing parks and facilities. 21. Conducts routine inspections of park equipment, including but not limited to, playgrounds, furnishings, safety equipment, pools, turf, trees, and pavement. 22. Trains other co-workers in areas of specialization or certification as directed. The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or equivalent required; and, 2. Minimum five years directly related experience in park maintenance and operations; and, 3. Demonstrated excellence in the performance of duties as a Skilled Park Specialist through performance evaluations required; and, 4. Demonstrated proficiency in three or more trade skills, including carpentry, roofing, welding, flooring, construction, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, landscaping, etc. required; and, 5. A valid state driver's license is required. 6. Certifications related to turf management, irrigation, horticulture, tree maintenance, etc. preferred. Apply online www.lsparks.net
