- Perform and supervise maintenance activities, including performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair; operating shop machinery; and operating and maintaining an on-site water system.
- Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices; assisting and directing staff; and working with patrons to minimize potential problems.
- Supervise seasonal employees, including assigning, reviewing, and evaluating their work as well as completing any necessary training.
- Complete the annual inventory report, including locating each item on the report and updating the location and condition of each item; recommending item for surplus; and adding items to the report as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance of buildings, grounds and trails, such as cutting hazardous trees; assist in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical repairs; and operating tractors, skid steers, snow blowers, and other equipment.
- Obtain quotes for the purchase of needed material, equipment, and services.
- Maintain records, including those pertaining to daily maintenance, NYS Department of Health water operation reports, hazardous trees, vehicles, automated external defibrillator (AED), fire extinguishers, playgrounds, bulk petroleum storage, audits, and personal timekeeping.
- One year of experience in any of the following fields:
- Law enforcement or security
- Firefighting
- Emergency Medical Services
- Environmental education or stewardship
- Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
- Historic preservation or interpretation
- Landscaping or grounds maintenance OR
- One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces; OR
- Thirty (30) semester credit hours
- of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university; OR
- Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program; OR
- Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
- Your credit hours must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.
Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Park Worker 3. Additional CommentsOPERATING NEEDS
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess or obtain Sawyer Certification within the probationary period or at the next available training as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess or be able to obtain Water Operator Grade "C" license within the probationary period or at the next available training as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess or be able to complete lift training and fall protection training within the probationary period or at the next available training as a term and condition of employment.
- Must possess or obtain CPR/AED certification within probationary period or at the next available training as a term and condition of employment.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule.
