Claytor Lake State Park is accepting applications for a Seasonal Park Naturalist position.

Job Summary:

This position involves working with the Lead Naturalist to develop, plan, market, and implement educational programs and activities that focus on the natural and cultural resources at Claytor Lake State Park. Candidate may be required to perform other park-related duties as needed. Seasonal employment is from May to September, with as-needed opportunities available outside this timeframe.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Organize, market, and provide park educational programs and materials. Maintain all interpretive exhibits, areas, equipment, and kiosks. Operate the Discovery Room and maintain live animal exhibits within.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be able to work variable shifts during weekdays, weekends, holidays, and in a variety of weather conditions. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work with and relate well to people and possess superior oral and written communication skills. Public speaking is required to lead programs to diverse audiences. Proficient in using computer word-editing software and apps for creating documents, marketing materials, and tracking program attendance. Possess a valid driver's license.

Additional Considerations:

Education, training, and/or experience in the natural sciences/resources. Experience creating and facilitating environmental education programs.

Employment Eligibility:

Driver's License Requirement:

A valid State Driver's License is required if operating a state or personal vehicle for agency business.

Work Requirements:

Wage/seasonal positions are not eligible for benefits and are limited to 1,500 hours from May 1 to April 30. Minorities, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and individuals with National Park Service experience are encouraged to apply.
