Job Description

Join the team at Sandy Bottom Nature Park! This position performs a variety of duties supporting park operations, including conservation efforts, animal care, educational programming, facility and grounds maintenance, and related administrative projects and tasks. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to the daily operations and visitor experience of one of Hampton's premier nature destinations while supporting environmental stewardship and community engagement. The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform a variety of work in all areas of park operations including conservation, animal care, programming, maintenance and all related administrative tasks and capital projects for the Sandy Bottom Nature Park. This class works under general supervision according to some procedures but decide how or when to complete tasks. Provides supervision to frontline staff. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or successful completion of the GED. A minimum of one (1) year of experience in park operations and maintenance. One year of experience working with native wildlife and/or domestic farm animals and their care required. One year of experience performing administrative duties and some supervisory experience preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy. Additional Requirements Requires considerable contact with the general public and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Requires shift work to include nights, weekends, holidays. Requires frequent local travel. The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
