Job Description

Overnight Program Watchperson About Nauticus:
Established in 1994, Nauticus is a maritime discovery center that hosts 350,000 visitors annually and is home to the Nauticus Museum, Sail Nauticus sailing center, Schooner Virginia, Battleship Wisconsin, and the Half Moone Cruise Terminal. Nauticus' mission is to benefit the community through education, impactful experiences, and by sharing access to maritime resources. This position is funded by the Nauticus Foundation, the 501(c)3 nonprofit, raising funds to support the mission and activities of Nauticus.
Position Description:
The Overnight Night Watchperson provides critical overnight safety and monitoring during Nauticus' Overnight Programs. This position maintains a consistent overnight presence, conducts walkthroughs, monitors facilities, and supports the safety of participants, staff, and assets. The Night Watchperson does not lead educational activities; the focus is safety, vigilance, facility monitoring, and guest support during quiet hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Safety Monitoring Serve as the primary safety point of contact during overnight hours. Conduct hourly walkthroughs of assigned ship/museum areas. Monitor exits, emergency pathways, and sleeping areas for hazards or issues. Ensure guests comply with safety rules and remain in designated areas. Report facility concerns, unusual behavior, or maintenance issues promptly. Complete nightly logs, incident reports, and checklists as required. 2. Guest and Staff Support Respond professionally to nighttime questions, needs, or minor issues. Assist educators and the Overnight Manager when needed. Work with the Overnight Manager and team to ensure smooth and efficient program flow. Communicate clearly and professionally with group leaders. Provide on Maintain a positive, welcoming, and mission-focused environment. Maintain awareness of shipboard and museum hazards and report concerns promptly.
Skills and Qualifications:
Strong situational awareness and reliability. Ability to remain alert and attentive throughout overnight shifts. Strong group facilitation and communication skills. Security, military, camp, or facilities experience preferred but not required. Comfortable navigating ladders, stairs, and tight passageways aboard the battleship. CPR/First Aid/AED preferred (or willingness to obtain). Ability to manage groups in a dynamic environment. This position primarily requires availability on Friday and Saturday evenings, with occasional weeknight shifts as needed to support program operations
Hourly Rate Range:
$18 - $25 per hour How to
