Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform specialized work involving all aspects of Mosquito Control operations and outreach-related activities designed to educate and inform the general public about Mosquito Control. Employees function at entry level and work under the direction and supervision of the Mosquito Control Supervisor. Although the employee works independently and is often physically removed from supervision, duties are performed within the framework of pre-established policies and procedures. Essential Job Functions The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.   • Reads and interprets a variety of instructions maps, diagrams, or schedules to determine appropriate spraying locations.
  • Applies insecticides and chemicals according to procedure to maximize the coverage of the area while ensuring compliance with all applicable Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), State and County regulations and policies governing the application of pesticides.
  • Operates spray truck, as needed, with heightened awareness to pedestrian and traffic conditions, and in accordance with traffic laws, ordinances, and safe driving practices, for the safe distribution of mosquito control chemicals and insecticides in designated County areas; Sprays only during appropriate weather conditions to ensure localized and lasting distribution.
  • Cleans and maintains spray truck and equipment; flushes the spray system after each shift.
  • Disposes of chemicals, biological agents, and hazardous materials in accordance with prescribed safety policies and environmental procedures; maintains cleanliness of facilities and equipment; maintains inventory of materials.
  • Assists with the coordination of information booths at community events; Schedules and attends community events.
  • Assists with various aspects of the outreach program, including the school education program; Assists in researching educational materials suitable for schools.
  • Assists with field outreach and operational campaigns in County neighborhoods as needed. Completes neighborhood sweeps in the event of an arborvirus case. Delivers informational brochures to communities at risk for arbovirus; Develops educational and outreach materials and curriculum; Maintains an inventory of outreach bags.
  • Participates in community and employee outreach events including but not limited to, informational talks with HOA's and CDD's, Boo on Broadway, Movie Night, Health Fairs, and related events.
  • Performs all duties within the framework of pre-established safety policies and procedures.
  • Receives telephone inquiries and concerns, ascertains the nature of the call, and resolves personally, directs matters to the appropriate individual or department, or acts as liaison to the assigned supervisor; Forwards all calls regarding chemicals used, policies and procedures, and driver complaints to the Manager within twenty-four (24) hours of receipt of inquiry.
  • Performs a variety of routine clerical functions, including completing reports of spraying assignments; Provides general office and outreach support by communicating with residents regarding night spray notifications and driveway agreements; Manages data entry, filing, and content development, including writing, graphic design, editing, photography, videography, and social media.
  • Logs all service requests daily, completes work assignments in a timely and consecutive manner, reports results of investigation.
  • Maintains equipment and brochure inventories. Maintains the outreach database to include inventories. Ensures the outreach van is stocked, maintained and clean. Inspects and ensures all outreach equipment is clean and undamaged.
  • Serves as a night spray driver in the event of a Public Health Emergency
  • Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
