Job Description

This isn't a job posting. It's a career invitation. Creed Pest Control is a fast-growing, locally owned pest control company in Ames, Iowa. We protect homes and businesses across central Iowa from pests, rodents, bats, and wildlife — and we do it with a small team of people who take real pride in their work. We're hiring an Apprentice Technician — a foundational role designed to grow into a full route technician position as our business expands. If you're someone who works hard, learns fast, and wants to build a skilled trade career rather than just fill a job, this was written for you. The role The Apprentice Technician supports daily field operations, prepares the team for success each morning, and handles key office and shop functions that keep the business running efficiently. You'll work alongside our route technician and owner, learn every aspect of the trade, and earn professional certifications that belong to you — no matter where your career takes you. This is not a back-office role. You will be in the field regularly, on roofs, in attics, at residential and commercial accounts. You'll also be in the shop and on the phone. Variety is a feature of this job, not a bug. A day in the life You arrive at 7:30 AM. Before the route techs leave at 8:00, you've pulled the day's schedule, loaded each truck with the right products and equipment for the jobs ahead, filled the backpack sprayers, and made sure everything is ready to go. Your prep work means the team hits the road on time, organized, and without missing anything. Once trucks are out, your day shifts. Maybe you're answering inbound calls and scheduling service appointments. Maybe you're inputting new customer agreements and cleaning up data in the field management system. Maybe you're restocking the shop, washing a vehicle, or ordering supplies. Mid-morning a job is scheduled that needs two people. You load up and head out to assist with what ever your team member needs. The job gets done faster and cleaner because there are two of you. Afternoon you're back in the shop. You check the next day's schedule, check and organize the shop and inventory, review customer and team member requests and pull what's needed, making sure the team walks in tomorrow morning ready to go. You're done at 4:00 PM. What you'll learn and earn Creed pays for all certifications. Within your first 30 days you'll hold: Iowa Core Pesticide License Category 7A — General Pest Within 90 days you'll add: Category 7B — Rodent Control Category 3OT — Structural Pest These are state-recognized credentials that are yours to keep and build on throughout your career. Pay and benefits $18.00/hour — consistent, guaranteed hourly pay
Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM-4:00 PM Company vehicle provided for field work Paid holidays and PTO after 90 days 401(k) with company match Access to health insurance All licensing and training paid by Creed The career path The Apprentice Technician role is a deliberate first step. As Creed's route grows — and it is growing — the next position that opens is Route Technician, with a production-based compensation structure and uncapped earning potential. The person in this role today is first in line for that position. We don't hire apprentices to stay apprentices. We hire them to grow into the next level of our team. Who we're looking for We hire based on the 5 C's — Competence, Character, Compassion, Communication, and Creativity. Everything else we can teach. You'll do well here if you: Show up every day and take your commitments seriously — reliability is non-negotiable here Genuinely enjoy working with people and take customer interactions seriously Are comfortable with physical, outdoor work in all weather conditions Have experience working with your hands — trades, construction, agriculture, landscaping, military backgrounds translate well and accelerate your earning potential Have a stable work history — frequent job changes are a disqualifier Want to learn a skilled trade and build something, not just collect a paycheck Recent graduates and career changers are genuinely welcome. If you work hard and care about doing the job right, we'll invest in you. One honest note This job involves working on ladders, roofs, and in attics and crawlspaces regularly. You'll encounter insects, rodents, and bats as a normal part of the work. If any of those are hard stops for you, this isn't the right fit — and that's okay. For the right person, it's exactly why they love coming to work. Basic requirements Valid Iowa driver's license

  • Pass background check
  • Drug-free workplace
  • Comfortable with heights and confined spaces
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs Why Creed We're not a franchise.
There's no regional manager in another state making decisions about your route. You'll know the owner by name on day one and your customers will know you by name within a month. The people who join Creed now are building something real in their own community — and they'll look back on this as the start of something.
