Finance & Development Manager Position Type:
Full-Time, Hybrid Schedule Available, Non-Exempt Position Overview The Humane Society of St. Joseph County is seeking a mission-driven, detail-oriented, and strategic Finance & Development Manager to oversee the organization's financial operations while supporting fundraising, donor engagement, and development initiatives. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the financial sustainability and long-term growth of the organization through strong fiscal management, donor stewardship, grant tracking, and development support. The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, adaptable, and passionate about animal welfare and nonprofit impact. This role works closely with the Executive Director, leadership team, Board of Directors, donors, grantors, vendors, and community partners. Compensation & Benefits Full-time position averaging 40 hours per week Starting compensation of $25.00
00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience Comprehensive benefits package available to eligible employees, including employer-paid health insurance, life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability coverage Generous paid time off package Flexible hybrid work schedule available, with a minimum of 24 hours per week worked onsite Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of animals and the local community Qualification Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or related field preferred Minimum of 2 years of experience in nonprofit finance, bookkeeping, accounting, fundraising, or related administrative work preferred Strong understanding of budgeting, financial reporting, and donor stewardship practices Experience with accounting software, donor management systems, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with staff and leadership Passion for animal welfare and community service strongly preferred Essential Duties & Responsibilities Finance & Accounting
- 60% Manage day-to-day financial operations of the organization Accurately process daily revenue transactions, reconcile receipts, and prepare daily bank deposits Process accounts payable and accounts receivable Maintain accurate financial records and reconciliations Assist with payroll processing and employee benefit administration Monitor cash flow, budgets, and financial reporting Prepare monthly financial reports for leadership and the Board of Directors Coordinate annual audits and assist with preparation of required documentation Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and organizational policies Assist with contract tracking, municipal invoicing, and grant financial reporting Work collaboratively with external accountants, auditors, and financial partners Development & Fundraising•35% Support organizational fundraising goals through donor stewardship and engagement Manage donor database systems and ensure accurate donor records Process donations and prepare donor acknowledgements and tax receipts Assist with planning and execution of fundraising campaigns, special events, sponsorships, and community partnerships Assist with sponsorship outreach and tracking for fundraising events Assist with grant research, applications, reporting, and compliance tracking Support recurring donor initiatives and donor retention strategies Help create fundraising materials, sponsorship packets, and donor communications Track fundraising performance metrics and prepare reports for leadership and the Board Administrative & Organizational Support•5% Maintain confidentiality regarding financial, personnel, and donor information Assist with policy and procedure development related to finance and development operations Support strategic planning and organizational sustainability initiatives Collaborate with leadership team members on organizational priorities and special projects Attend staff meetings, fundraising events, and Board meetings as requested Working Conditions Work environment may include exposure to animals, zoonotic diseases, noise, odors, and varying environmental conditions.
