Job Description
Florence Electricity Department (FED) is a municipal utility providing electric service to the Florence, AL/Lauderdale County area. FED offers a customer service-driven environment to provide high quality, low cost, safe, and reliable electric service to our customers The Apprentice Climber works under the direction and supervision of a Tree Foreman. Apprentice Climber is in active training to learn to cut and trim trees at and above ground level and to advance to Climber classification. Work is performed from a bucket truck or by using a tree-trimming saddle, climbing ropes, rigging ropes, etc. The Apprentice Climber learns to use tools and equipment necessary to do tree trimming work. Cut and trim trees at and above ground level. Operates tree trimming tools and equipment necessary to perform work. Attends and participates in safety meetings and training sessions about tree trimming. Feeds brush and limbs into a chipper. Applies herbicides. Performs other duties as assigned. High school graduate or GED. Valid Unrestricted Commercial Class A Driver's License or be able to obtain a commercial license within six months of employment. Ability to climb, cut, and trim trees above ground level using rope, saddle, and tree climbing spurs. Ability to learn rigging and roping techniques used in trimming and cutting trees. Ability to use power chain saw, hydraulic saw, and pruners (hydraulic and manual). Ability to drive a chipper truck, tow, and back chipper in close spaces. Ability to withstand extreme heights. Ability to safely apply herbicides. Be able to work overtime and be available for emergency work. Ability to maintain good public and employee relations and respect customer's property. Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations): Must be able to climb, stoop, bend, and lift up to 100 lbs. Must be able to work at extreme heights. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to drive vehicles.
