Senior Field Technician Elgin, IL 60120 From $25 an hour - Part-time From $25 an hour - Part-time About On-Site Drapery Cleaners On-Site Drapery Cleaners has been the trusted specialist in commercial drapery cleaning and certified flameproofing since 1978. We are the only company in North America that brings a fully equipped mobile cleaning plant directly to our clients' facilities — eliminating the disruption of removing and transporting drapery, and completing work in a single visit. Our clients include hotels, hospitals, performing arts venues, schools, and long-term care facilities across the mid-west and beyond. We are NFPA-certified and provide comprehensive compliance documentation, helping clients meet fire code requirements without operational disruption. The Opportunity As a Drapery Technician, you are the face of On-Site Drapery Cleaners on-site at client facilities. You operate our mobile cleaning equipment, perform flameproofing treatments, and ensure every job is completed to the highest standard of quality and professionalism. This is a hands-on field role that combines technical skill, attention to detail, and strong client-facing communication — and it offers the satisfaction of delivering visible, immediate results for the clients you serve. Key Responsibilities On-Site Drapery Cleaning Operate the mobile drapery cleaning plant at client locations, including hotels, theatres, hospitals, schools, and long-term care facilities Perform non-immersion cleaning of drapery using On-Site's proprietary process, preserving existing flame retardant treatments Take down, clean, and re-hang drapery without damage to fabric, hardware, or surroundings Inspect drapery for condition, wear, damage, and compliance issues before and after cleaning Maintain cleaning equipment in proper working order; report mechanical issues promptly Flameproofing & Compliance Apply flame retardant treatments to drapery, curtains, and soft furnishings in accordance with
NFPA 701
standards and applicable provincial/state fire codes Conduct field flame tests (NFPA 705) to assess fabric compliance before and after treatment Complete and issue flameproofing compliance certificates and documentation accurately Identify materials that cannot be treated and communicate findings clearly to clients and the office Client Service & Communication Represent On-Site professionally at all client sites — uniformed, punctual, and courteous Communicate clearly with facility managers, housekeeping supervisors, and maintenance staff regarding scope, process, and results Answer client questions about the cleaning and flameproofing process with confidence Flag upsell opportunities, compliance gaps, or service needs to the operations team Documentation & Reporting Complete job completion reports accurately, including drapery inventory, treatment records, and condition notes Submit daily paperwork and digital records to the office team in a timely manner Maintain chain-of-custody documentation for drapery taken off-site where applicable Vehicle & Equipment Operate company van and mobile plant safely and in compliance with all traffic and safety regulations Perform pre-trip inspections; maintain vehicle cleanliness and organization Ensure all supplies, chemicals, and equipment are stocked and in working order before each job What We're Looking For Required Valid driver's licence with a clean abstract Physical fitness — this role involves lifting, climbing, and working at height with ladders and lifts Reliability and professionalism — our clients are hospitals, hotels, and performance venues with high expectations Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work Ability to work independently and manage your day with minimal supervision Comfort working in occupied facilities alongside hospital staff, hotel guests, and school personnel Preferred Previous experience in commercial cleaning, facilities maintenance, hospitality housekeeping, or a related trade Experience with fire safety compliance, flameproofing, or NFPA standards Experience operating specialized equipment or mobile service vehicles WHMIS certification or willingness to obtain What We Offer Competitive hourly wage commensurate with experience Full training — no prior drapery or flameproofing experience required Stable, year-round employment with a company that has served clients since 1978 A positive, small-team environment where your work is recognized and valued Daytime hours — most work is performed Monday through Friday during business hours Company vehicle and all equipment provided Opportunity to grow into a lead technician or training role over time Working Conditions This is a mobile, field-based role. Technicians travel daily to client sites across the mid-west, typically within a 2-hour radius of Elgin. Work is performed in a variety of environments including hotel ballrooms, hospital wards, school auditoriums, and performing arts stages. Some early morning or weekend availability may occasionally be required to minimize disruption to client operations. The role involves moderate to heavy physical activity including lifting (up to 50 lbs), working from ladders, and extended periods of standing. PPE and proper training are provided.
