Public Works Performs a variety of skilled work involving the trimming, removal, installation, and general maintenance of street and park trees. As a Tree Climber, you will operate and maintain tree maintenance equipment, perform hazard tree assessments, tree planting, and execute related tasks as necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Oversees support crew.
Duties/Responsibilities:
? Safely climb trees using ladders, climbing equipment, or aerial lift trucks for tasks such as pruning, limb removal, and line clearing. ? Establish safe work zones and adhere to all safety practices, including the use of personal protective equipment. ? Direct the immediate support crew effectively and safely. ? Operate and maintain various tree maintenance equipment, including aerial lift trucks, chainsaws, brush chippers, and stump grinders. ? Perform cabling, bolting, bracing operations, and incidental cavity work. ? Keep detailed records of work performed, including property damage. ? Respond to public inquiries about tree maintenance work and explain City tree policies. ? Collaborate with the City Forester to plan and review work projects. ? Act as the City Forester in their absence. ? Respond to emergency calls outside normal work hours as required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
? Knowledge of materials, equipment, safety measures, and methods for tree care, trimming, removal, planting, and maintenance. ? Ability to direct support crew activities, perform manual labor, monitor supplies, analyze situations, set up safe work sites, learn city geography, and work cooperatively with other City crews. ? Proficient in safely operating aerial lifts, brush chippers, tractors, spray rigs, chainsaws, and other related equipment.
Job Environment:
Fieldwork is performed outdoors with exposure to variable weather conditions, loud noise levels, and hazards associated with heavy equipment. Workload is subject to seasonal and weather-related fluctuations. Education, Certification, Licensure and Experience:
? High school diploma or equivalent, with college courses in forestry preferred. ? CDL ? Class B License and Hoisting Engineer?s License 1C preferred. ? ISA Certification is preferred. ? Previous experience as a tree climber or in a related field involving tree maintenance, trimming, removal, and installation. ? Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of tree maintenance equipment such as aerial lift trucks, chainsaws, brush chippers, sprayers, stump grinders, etc. ? Experience in hazard tree assessment, tree planting, and general maintenance of street and park trees. ? Supervisory experience, including directing the work of support crews in a safe and effective manner. Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) status: Non-Exempt (hourly) Employment status &
Hours:
Regular Full-time employment, 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Salary/Pay rate:
\$30.59 (minimum) up to \$32.64 (maximum) per hour (Grade PW-27)
