Job Description

Position Summary:
The Urban Canopy Program Technician plays a vital role in the success of T6B's tree planting and green space maintenance efforts. This position supports the Urban Canopy Program by performing field-based tasks such as planting, watering, mulching, and maintaining trees and landscaped lots. The Technician also supports operations at the Tree Nursery and other related program activities, compost processing, community market support, SHARE program support, and public engagement. The ideal candidate is reliable, community-minded, and motivated to help grow and sustain Baltimore's urban forest.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with planting and maintenance of trees, including watering, mulching, pruning, and staking. Perform landscaping tasks such as mowing, weeding, and clearing debris on vacant lots and green spaces. Maintain tree nursery operations, including inventory care and sapling handling. Load and unload tools, trees, mulch, and other materials; help prepare equipment for daily use. Support data collection efforts for tree inventory and condition assessments. Assist with community volunteer events and help coordinate logistics and setup. Operate landscaping equipment safely (lawnmowers, string trimmers, rakes, wheelbarrows, etc.). Follow work plans and safety procedures established by the Program Manager. Promote environmental stewardship by engaging respectfully with residents and volunteers. Report issues including damaged trees, safety concerns, or unusual site conditions. Perform other duties as needed to support the mission and vision of The 6th Branch.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in landscaping, forestry, farming, or grounds maintenance is preferred but not required. Ability to work independently with limited direction Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Strong work ethic, reliability, and respect for the communities being served. Interest in trees, green infrastructure, or environmental justice. Comfort working both independently and as part of a team with supervision. Drivers license required
Work Conditions:
This position is 100% field-based , requiring work outdoors in various urban environments. Schedules may include early mornings, occasional weekends , and support for volunteer events . Protective gear and training will be provided. The position is based in East Baltimore , with work across T6B green sites and the Broadway East Tree Nursery.
