Job Description
Position Summary The Groundie is a vital member of the tree service crew, responsible for supporting climbers, arborists, and equipment operators in the safe and efficient completion of tree care, tree removal, pruning, and site cleanup operations. This position requires physical stamina, attention to safety, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist tree climbers and arborists during tree trimming, pruning, and removal operations. Operate and feed brush, limbs, and debris into wood chippers safely. Drag, stack, and remove brush, logs, and other tree debris from job sites. Maintain a safe work zone by setting up cones, signs, and barriers as needed. Manage ropes, rigging equipment, and lowering lines under the direction of climbers and crew leaders. Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance of tools, chainsaws, chippers, trucks, and other equipment. Load and unload equipment, materials, and debris. Assist with stump grinding and other tree care services when required. Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices. Communicate effectively with crew members to ensure safe and efficient operations. Maintain clean and organized job sites and company vehicles. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience in tree care, landscaping, construction, or outdoor labor is preferred but not required. Valid driver's license preferred; CDL is a plus. Ability to learn proper tree care and rigging techniques. Strong work ethic and positive attitude. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to walk on uneven terrain and work around heavy equipment. Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and stand for extended periods. Safety Requirements Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, eye protection, hearing protection, chainsaw chaps, and safety boots. Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training. Follow all safety procedures related to chainsaws, chippers, rigging systems, and traffic control.
