The purpose of this position is to maintain York County's fleet of emergency fire apparatus vehicles and firefighting equipment to a high safety standard, as required by Federal Regulations, by performing preventative maintenance, testing, diagnostics and repairs. Projected Hiring Range/Pay Grade 115: $25.04
04 per hour. Salary is based on qualifications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts diagnostics on "Meritor" Roll Stability Systems, "Class One" Vehicle Data Recorders, "V-Mux" Multiples electrical systems and exhaust gas regeneration Environmental Protection Association (EPA) Systems. Conducts diagnostics by use of Cummins Insite software, Allison Transmissions software, Meritor and Wabco Brake software, etc. utilizing a laptop and personal log on procedures. Performs minor and major repairs of fixed and portable Fire Pumps; conduct Underwriters Laboratories (UL) pump performance tests as required by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Insurance Services Office (ISO). Properly and safely uses provided hand and power tools that includes cleaning, securing and ensuring required safeguards are in place. Performs minor and major repairs to heavy duty diesel and gasoline engines, heavy duty automatic transmissions and heavy-duty electrical components. Performs preventative maintenance such as changing oil and filters, lubricating, flushing cooling systems, replacing and adjusting brakes, replacing belts, etc. Ability to drive county vehicles required to perform this required task. Receives and processes work orders, ensuring prompt response to both routine and emergency maintenance and repair requests; assists in scheduling tasks according to priority. Constructs and assembles fire service grass units and service trucks using provided plans and drawings. Rebuilds and reconditions fire equipment as needed; Fire pumps, valves, hydraulic cylinders, PPV fans, chainsaws, generators, nozzles, fire hose, deluge guns, ladders, etc. Communicates extensively with OEMs to diagnose and repair specialized fire equipment components. Performs electrical wiring both AC and DC, currents for generators, breaker panels, outlet boxes, flood lights, warning lights and sirens, etc. Services, maintains and/or repairs fire service breathing air systems as required by Occupational Safety Health Association (OSHA) and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Performs related work as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High School Graduation or GED equivalent. Automotive Mechanic Associates degree is preferred. Three (3) years of fire apparatus and equipment experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess a valid state Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B driver's license with appropriate endorsements. A Class A is desired. Must possess and First Aid / CPR Certification and re-certify prior to expiration. Must possess Forklift Operators certification or the ability to obtain. A welding certification is desirable.
Travel and Training:
Numerous fire service-related training opportunities will be provided to gain specific manufacturer preferred training opportunities listed and at times may require (up to) air travel and extended stays out of state. Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
Physical Demands:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
