Job Description
Grand Farm is seeking a dedicated and skilled Agriculture Field Technician to join our team. As an Agriculture Field Technician, you will play a crucial role in the setup, maintenance, and data collection of agricultural demonstration plots and field trial plots at Grand Farm's Innovation Campus in Casselton, North Dakota. This position involves a combination of hands-on fieldwork, machinery operation, and data collection to support innovative agricultural research. The ideal candidate will have experience in farm operations as well as agricultural field research.
Key Areas of Responsibility Plot Setup and Maintenance:
Prepare and set up field plots and alleyways Ensure proper soil preparation and layoutPlanting:
Execute planting activities following established protocols and schedulesChemical Application:
Apply chemical inputs following established protocols and schedules as well as safety guidelines Monitor and record all chemical applications, ensuring compliance with established protocols and regulationsEstablish and Maintain Alleyways:
Plant, maintain, and terminate alleyways between plots Operate mowing equipment to maintain alleyways, recreation spaces, and the overall appearance of the farmMachinery Operations and Maintenance:
Operate and maintain farm machinery, including tractors, planters, sprayers and tillage implements Perform basic minor equipment repairs, calibrations and adjustments to all types of farm equipmentData Collection:
Collect and record scientific agricultural field data following established protocols as required by Grand Farm and project requirementsCollaboration:
Work closely with researchers and agronomists to execute projects in accordance with established product plans Provide input and feedback on field conditions and crop performanceSafety Compliance:
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during all tasks Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards on the fieldSite Upkeep:
Mowing of alleyways and ditches throughout the growing season Snow removal and snow blowing during the winter Other Duties as Assigned Required Skills/Abilities Strong attention to detail and precision in executing tasks and collecting data Ability to operate and maintain various types of farm machinery Basic knowledge of pesticide application and safety procedures Self-driven and accountable under low supervision Ability to prioritize tasks effectively Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive, and related software Experience & Education Requirements Bachelor's degree in agricultural science, horticulture, plant sciences or related field AND/OR 2+ years experience working in an agricultural production/research setting Experience with common agricultural equipment and machinery Experience in collecting agricultural research data Valid driver's license Pesticide applicator license preferred, or ability to obtain Physical Demands Ability to continuously stand or walk during events Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift occasionally Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally These physical requirements must be met with or without accommodation Work Environment May occasionally work outdoors with temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees May occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces May occasionally climb ladders and work off elevated surfaces Noise level in the work environment is frequently loud Ability to work outside normal business hours on occasion Ability to travel to stakeholder locations located in rural communities Availability Available to work 38 - 40 hours per week Must be available to work some evenings and/or weekends depending on event schedules Must be able to work onsite Willingness to work flexible hours during peak seasons, often long hours during planting and harvest Benefits & Culture Flexible work environment that allows the employee to work from varied environments and locations.
