Serves as senior expert responsible for broad program operions in research, development, test and evaluion for Aircraft Arresting Systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
: Applicants must have least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience the next lower broadband NH-3, equivalent to the next lower grade GS-13 or equivalent in other pay systems. Specialized experience is experience in applying advanced mechanical engineering theories, principles, concepts and practices to research, develop, test, evalue, design, analyze, maintain, or improve complex mechanical systems and equipment; providing technical guidance and consultion on engineering policies, procedures, and operional issues; leading or coordining engineering projects involving aircraft arresting systems or similar large scaled mechanical systems; analyzing system performance and resolving complex engineering problems; and developing recommendions, standards, or technical solutions impacting engineering operions, maintenance, lifecycle management, or program objectives.

Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) stics, dynamics; (b) strength of merials (stress-strain relionships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nure and properties of merials (reling particle and aggrege structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, he transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

Skill in devising and evaluing criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelionships for design approaches, and to assess the impact of new technology on project/program requirements. Ability to communice clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.
