About us The Aberdeen Area Humane Society's mission is to shelter homeless animals, place animals into good homes and to rescue animals from abusive situations. The Aberdeen Area Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Animal Care Medical Assistant will provide oversight, coordinates veterinary care, monitors animal health and behavior, maintain accurate documentation of medical treatments and works hands-on in the kennels. Ensures all animals receive appropriate preventative and emergency care and communicates directly with the shelter manager on clinical trends or concerns. We are seeking a full time employee. Some weekend shifts will be required. Starting pay is negotiable based on experience.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate vet visits and pre-/post-surgical care Sanitize and prep surgical instruments Monitor animal behavior and provide medical treatments Support/foster medical needs Assist with SOP development and outbreak protocols Serve as medical liaison to the shelter manager Work regular kennel shifts40-60% Provide daily care to shelter animals Cleaning and disinfecting of kennel, surgical suite, and public areas following sanitization and disease control protocols. Laundering animal blankets, beds and toys. Conduct adoption visits and consultations. Ensure animals entering the shelter have appropriate records and assist with return to owner process. Interact with volunteers and the public. Regular and predictable attendance is required.QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Animal handling experience is necessary. Ability to problem solve while working in a high stress, fast pace environment and a strong customer service orientation is required. Ability to maintain and complete accurate logs. Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers, contribute to team building and maintain a professional and positive outlook in all situations is desired. The applicant should have a genuine passion for, and commitment to, animal welfare. Must have a high school diploma orGED MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
In performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to animal bodily fluids (urine, feces, blood), airborne particles and zoonotic diseases. The worker may be exposed to animal bites and/or scratches. The environment is moderately loud. An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance. An employee must be prepared to handle animals which may be fearful, not properly trained and may have unruly or unpredictable behavior.
