$21.00 per hour -Full-Time, Non-Exempt Schedule:
40 hours per week; includes weekends, holidays, and on-call rotationJob Summary:
Under general supervision, the Full-Time Animal Control Officer enforces county animal control ordinances in unincorporated areas of Atascosa County. This position involves field response, animal handling, public education, and shelter support. Officers are responsible for promoting public safety, investigating animal-related complaints, and ensuring the humane treatment of domestic animals (dogs and cats).Essential Duties:
Responds to service calls involving stray, injured, aggressive, or nuisance animals. Captures and transports animals using humane and safe methods. Investigates reports of animal cruelty, neglect, or ordinance violations. Issues warnings or citations in accordance with county ordinances. Educates the public on animal control laws and responsible pet ownership. Completes accurate reports and maintains detailed records. Assists with shelter operations, including intake, cleaning, and euthanasia (if certified). Participates in on-call rotation and emergency response as needed. Maintains assigned vehicle and equipment in clean and working condition. Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED. Valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Must obtain Basic Animal Control Officer Certification within 6 months of hire. Must be euthanasia certified or willing to become certified. Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in various weather conditions. Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience in animal control, law enforcement, or animal care. Knowledge of local and state animal control laws. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.Work Environment:
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, including exposure to animals, animal waste, and potentially hazardous conditions. Use of personal protective equipment is required.Application Instructions:
