Job Description

Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily operations of the animal shelter, including overseeing staff and volunteers
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the well-being and safety of animals
  • Works closely with partner veterinarians, local welfare organizations and transfer partner agencies.
  • Coordinate animal intake, including assessments, vaccinations, and medical treatments
  • Oversee animal adoption process, including screening potential adopters and conducting home visits
  • Provide behavior management and training for animals to increase their chances of adoption
  • Maintain accurate records of animal intake, adoptions, and medical treatments
  • Collaborate with local animal control agencies and rescue organizations
  • Ensure compliance with local and state regulations regarding animal welfare
  • Overseas the management, facility care and maintenance of kennel.
  • Responsible for planning, conducting and documenting regular staff meetings.
  • Reports to Board of Directors.
  • Overseas animal care staff training, reviews and performance plans.
  • Keeps data regarding key functions of shelter, such as number of adoptions, relinquishments, spay/neuters, etc. Provides recap of info to board monthly
  • Provides exceptional customer service, resolves customer complaints and ensures a positive customer experience.
  • Overseas the implementation of a safety program.
  • Works with board to ensure expenditures stay within allotted budget amounts.
Assists Executive director and board with operations-related budget planning annually.
Skills:
  • Strong personnel management (required)
  • Strong organizational skills (required)
  • Experience in behavior management for animals with various temperaments
  • First aid knowledge for providing emergency care to animals when needed
  • Proficiency in data entry and record keeping systems (required)
  • Ability to remain calm and provide crisis intervention during stressful situations
  • Excellent conflict management skills for resolving conflicts among staff or volunteers
  • Case management skills for assessing animals' needs and providing appropriate care
