Job Description

JOB Under the direction of the Animal Shelter Manager, this position is the person who is responsible for the daily cleaning and operation of the shelter. This position typically works 6.5 hour days, three days per week and is year-round. The applicant will need to have a valid driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Clean all areas of the shelter. Dog and cat kennels/cages must be cleaned and disinfected daily, more often if necessary, and bleached as needed. Outside dog kennels need to be checked often when dogs are out and remove any feces seen.

Floors must be swept daily and washed twice weekly, more often if necessary.

All areas must be dusted as needed and cleaned of cobwebs.

Run washing machine when full.

Dry laundry, fold, and put away.

Wash all dirty bowls and litter boxes daily.

Empty all waste baskets daily and for Wednesday dumpster pickup.

Bathroom to be cleaned weekly, more often if necessary.

Feed and water all shelter animals. Food dishes must be clean.

Food must be fresh and old food discarded.

Replenish food and water if necessary.

Exercise all shelter animals.

Walk dogs daily.

Cats are to exercise in their play room or in the office area minimum of twice/week.

Keep all food and litter containers clean and filled.

Process all shelter forms regarding the intake/outtake of animals.

Answer phones, take messages, and help all customers in a courteous manner. Process all incoming and outgoing animals.

Assist with euthanasia.

Maintain the grounds of the shelter.

Mow grass.

Remove any feces found.

Shovel snow.

Remove any debris or litter.

Train volunteers/community service workers on cleaning duties.

Help with special projects at the shelter.

Share on-call duties including law enforcement calls and stray pick up (see On-Call Job Description for details)Do any other task requested by shelter manager.

Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to kneel (15%), lift up to 40 pounds (50 pounds with team member) (15%), stand (50%), sit (5%), bend (15%).Work EnvironmentPosition will require use of specialized clothing or use of common personal protective equipment. Environmental conditions will frequently impact physical comfort. Position requires work around and with animals.
