ELIZABETHTOWN AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT ANTICIPATED ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS

Salary range: $50,000 - $80,000 JOB

DEFINITION/PURPOSE

This is a supervisory and administrative physical plant maintenance and operations position. Duties involve managing all maintenance and warehousing programs. Assignments are varied in nature and are carried out in accordance with administrative and trades precedents, practices, procedures, legal and contractual provisions. Work involves continuous on-call status, physical effort and exposure to the elements and potential hazards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Administers the school district physical plant management maintenance program; maintains program records and prepares related reports.
• Develops, defends, and lives within the approved, physical plant budget and operations plan.
• Recruits and trains staff, effectively recommends all personnel actions for subordinates, evaluates performance and investigates complaints.
• Schedules and assigns work; acts on leave requests.
• Assures the school district complies with federal and state occupational safety and health requirements.
• Assures buildings and grounds are inspected for maintenance, security, and safety concerns; initiates appropriate corrective action.
• Decides on whether to contract needed work; develops specifications; meets vendors; awards or recommends awards; oversees project work.
• Oversees Buildings and Grounds staff, ensuring adherence to all District policies and procedures.
• Assists with staff training and improvement plans, discipline, evaluations, hiring/recruiting, and succession planning.
• Assists Director of Buildings and Grounds with any administrative or supervisory duties, as assigned.
• Orders supplies and equipment.
• Performs related work as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Extensive knowledge of buildings and grounds maintenance principles and practices.
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical hazards and related safety precautions.
• Considerable knowledge of applicable occupational safety, health, and right to know legal requirements.
• Knowledge of maintenance inspection principles and practices.
• Knowledge of budgeting principles and practices.
• Knowledge of scheduling principles and practices.
• Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
• Skill in reviewing and evaluating contracts and proposals.
• Ability to plan and organize work effectively.
• Ability to communicate well, orally and in writing.
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, bend, crouch, crawl, lean, handle, finger, feel, talk, hear, see, push, pull, and lift and carry up to 80 lbs.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with and school staff, vendors, regulators, contractors, and associates.

QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma and five years of progressively responsible maintenance or related engineering experience with three years assuring compliance with applicable government occupational safety and health regulations and including three years of supervisory experience. OR any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience. Possession of a valid PA driver's license.
